  • Appropriate drainage and sediment controls are installed prior to new areas being cleared or disturbed?

Site and Vegetation Management

  • ESC measures have been installed in accordance with the approved installation sequence?

  • Adequate supplies of ESC materials stored on site: such as straw bales, wire, stakes, sediment fence fabric, filter cloth, flocculant etc?

  • Are temporary access roads are stabilised where appropriate?

  • Permanent access roads programmed to be sealed as soon as reasonable and practical?

  • Sediment deposition is not observed on external roads?

  • Site is adequately prepared for the anticipated weather?

  • Adequate protection provided for non disturbance areas, buffer zones, protected trees?

Material and Waste Management

  • Chemical and petroleum products appropriately stored on site?

  • Emergency spill response plan has been prepared for the site?

  • Oil/petroleum spill containment/ response kits available on site where appropriate?

  • Is the site clean and clear of litter build up?

  • Is there separate waste and recycling bin on site?

  • Is waste water from construction activities being captured on site and treated appropriately?

Stockpiles

  • Topsoil with a 100-300mm layer?

  • Are stockpiles 20 meters away from water bodies?

  • Are stockpiles stabilised 70% cover with vegetation or geo textile fabric?

  • Is there a sediment fence at the base of all stockpiles- not too close that it will over flow with sediment?

  • Are the stockpiles positioned in a way that they are away from existing flow paths?

  • If stockpile is not being used within 10 days it is to be stabilised (Hydromulch, Geofabric, or mulch?)

Drainage Controls

  • Are drainage control measures consistent with site ESCP?

  • Is clean and dirty water separated?

  • Have appropriate drainage controls been installed prior to new areas being cleared or disturbed?

Clean Water Drains

  • Are all drains in working order and are adequately maintained?

  • Is upslope clean water being appropriately diverted around/ through the site in a non erosive manner?

  • Does clean water drainage path lead to clean water?

  • Up-slope storm water adequately diverted/ managed?

  • Flow diversion channels/banks stabilised against erosion?

Dirty Water Drains

  • Drains are in working order and are adequately maintained?

  • Drainage lines free of scour and soil deposition?

  • Does dirty water path lead to sediment basin?

  • Flow not unlawfully discharged into an adjacent property?

  • Spacing of cross drainage (e.g catch drains or flow diversion banks) down long slopes is sufficient to prevent rill erosion?

  • Is sediment laden water filtering through sediment traps?

Rock Filter Dams

  • Excessive sediment removed from upslope of all traps?

  • Is flow passing over the dams and not around them?

  • Is the filtration systems free from sediment blockage?

  • Is the rock size appropriate for drain size and flow type?

Erosion Controls

  • Erosion control standard is consistent with requirements of regulatory authority?

  • Soil erosion is being controlled to a standard consistent with the level of environmental risk?

  • Earth batters free of rill erosion?

  • Erosion control measures consistent with the approved ESCP?

  • All erosion controls in working order?

  • Are all erosion control blankets:<br>- Well anchored?<br>- Overlapped in direction of storm water flow?<br>- Not damaged?

  • Mulch has appropriate cover over surface and is working effectively?

  • Is mulch secure and free from movement by wind or water?

Sediment Controls

  • Sediment control standard is consistent with requirements of regulatory authority?

  • Sedimentation is being controlled to a standard consistent with the level of environmental risk?

  • Sediment control is appropriate for the soil type?

  • Sediment control measures are being adequately maintained in proper working order at all times?

Entry / Exit Points

  • Control measures are constructed to appropriate standards?

  • Is rock large enough to not get carried away with vehicles?

  • If shaker grid is installed, is road before and after stabilised with rock for 15 meters?

  • Are entry/ exit pads free of excessive sediment deposition?

  • Excessive sedimentation is not evident on roadway?

Sediment Fences

  • Is bottom of fabric securely buried?

  • Is fabric appropriately overlapped at joints?

  • Is fabric attached to posts?

  • Are sediment fences free of excessive sediment deposition?

  • Are support posts at correct spacing (2m or 3m with backing)?

  • Are sediment fences free of damage?

Sediment Basins

  • Does the basin geometry and layout match design details?

  • Are sediment basins on site flagged off and out of way of public?

  • Is basin adequately sized and calculated to hold run off for the area?

  • Is dewatering being conducted in accordance with best practice?

  • Has excessive sediment been removed from basin?

  • Has a sediment depth marker been installed and maintained?

  • Is the primary outlet structure free from sediment blockage?

  • Is the inlet and outlet appropriately stabilised with rock?

  • Is the settled sediment layer clearly visible through ponded water prior to discharge such water?

  • Do adequate quantities of flocculant (if required) exist on site?

Air Quality

  • Are water trucks on site to control dust and watering down regularly?

  • Are all exposed areas stabilised where possible to minimise dust?

  • On visual inspection, is dust leaving site?

  • Is refuelling occurring as per EMP?

  • Is correct storage of Hazardous materials evident as per EMP?

  • Has there been any dust complaints in the current month? If so, have they been documented and reported to the environmental team?

Noise Control

  • Are times of operation being adhered to and if noisy operation is to occur outside of work hours, nearby residents and the local council are notified?

  • Have all noise levels been adhered to? If a complaint has been made, has it been documented and reported to the environment team?

Water Quality Management

  • Is all water being released off site within the required water quality parameters?

  • Is sediment basin water being documented on EMS-05-12 sediment basin discharging form?

  • If water quality monitoring has been specified as required for the job, is it being undertaken at the correct intervals?

Site Establishment/ Vegetation

  • Is there a site stabilisation plan for the site?

  • Are finished exposed areas being stabilised as soon as works are complete?

  • Are soil surfaces being roughened prior to revegetation?

  • Is erosion being adequately controlled during plant establishment stage?

Flora and Fauna

  • Is vegetation to be cleared been surveyed and adequately marked?

  • If there is protected vegetation on site is it clearly marked and site workers made aware?

  • Are all fauna related activities in the management plan?

SITE SPECIFIC

  • Acid sulphate soils

  • Have acid sulphate soils been identified on site? If no skip this section

  • Is there a acid sulphate management plan for the site?

  • Is all water being treated on site and discharged within the required parameters?

  • Is there an adequate amount of lime on site for treatment of soils?

  • Is the lime register being filled out and being kept up to date?

Cultural Heritage

  • Has this site been identified as containing or potentially containing cultural heritage artefacts? If no, skip this section

  • Have all employees undertaken training to be informed about the presence of Cultural Heritage?

  • Have the local tribe members been contacted?

  • Have any artifacts been found?

Worker observation- Select any worker/ subcontractor on site and ask the following

  • Is the worker aware of the Construction Environmental Management Plan?

  • Is the worker aware of the Erosion and Sediment Control Plan?

  • Does the worker know where the environmental policy is located?

  • If there is any site specific environmental requirements is the worker aware of these?

  • Can the worker provide details of items in the site induction?
