Air Brakes

  • ** warning: chocks must be applied to all four outside corner tires before starting brake checks, and truck must be on level ground **

  • Compressor test: Pressure should build from 85psi to 100 psi within 45 seconds. Build air pressure to governor cut-out (around 120psi).

  • Compressor test

  • Time to fill:

  • Static & applied static test: with all four wheels chocked, take off the parking brake. System should not lose more than 5psi in one minute. Listen for leaks. Then fully apply the service brake. System should not lose more than 3psi in one minute. Listen for leaks.

  • Static test

  • PSI drop:

  • Drum:

  • Applied static test

  • PSI drop:

  • Drum:

  • Safety systems test: apply the service brake rapidly, fanning off the air pressure. Low air warning devices (audible alarm, light) should activate before pressure drops below 60psi. Continue fanning air pressure. At approximately 40psi the parking brake valve should pop out.

  • Low air warning test

  • Pop test
