1.0 - Conducting Routine Checks (Pre-Start)

  • 1.1 - Visually inspect wheels & tyres for appropriate wear and inflation

  • 1.2 - Check all fluid levels (Truck engine oil, Water and Machine hydraulic etc)

  • 1.3 - Check truck cabin for cleanliness

  • 1.4 - Check registration is current and all paperwork and permits are present in truck

  • 1.5 - Check machine is within 90 day inspection period

  • 1.6 - Check truck hours and kilometers and identify if due or near due for servicing

  • 1.7 - Visually check mirrors, wipers, exhaust, engine guards or no loose items on truck.

  • 1.8 - Visually check all lights, indicators and horns are functional

  • 1.9 - Identify and activate flashing or rotating beacons / strobe

  • 1.10 - Locate emergency decent ropes and device and check they tagged and are within inspection period (Every 90 days, should be the same as machine 90 day inspection due date)

  • 1.11 - Locate full body safety harnesses and check they tagged and are within inspection period (Every 90 days, should be the same as machine 90 day inspection due date)

  • 1.12 - Locate fire extinguisher and check it is within test date

  • 1.13 - Locate first aid kit and check items such as saline etc has not passed it used by date

  • 1.14 - Locate emergency spill kit and check it contains appropriate contents

  • 1.15 - Identify your kit bag and check you possess all appropriate PPE

  • 1.16 - Check UHF Radio is operational

  • 1.17 - Locate and identify working range chart of machine

  • 1.18 - Visually check hydraulic rams, hoses & connections

  • 1.19 - Visually check boom for damage

  • 1.20 - Visually inspect boom cradle / support for damage

  • 1.21 - Visually inspect boom strap and is secured

  • 1.22 - Visually check all warning stickers and labels are visible and legible

  • 1.23 - Visually check fall arrest points for any visible damage

  • 1.24 - Locate and identify witches hats, danger tape and workers overhead signs etc

  • 1.25 - Visually inspect connecting rods, pins, pivot points etc for cracks or signs of excessive wear

  • 1.26 - Check EWPA yellow book for any logged faults

2.0 - Setting up Travel Tower

  • 2.1 - Identify and operate park brake

  • 2.2 - Identify and engage PTO

  • 2.3 - Secure site for safe operation

  • 2.4 - Assess ground conditions are suitable

  • 2.5 - Identify hazards surrounding Travel Tower

  • 2.6 - Position Travel Tower in safest position possible, suitable for the task

  • 2.7 - Place appropriate dunnage or pads under each outrigger jack, suitable for ground conditions as specified by the manufacturer

  • 2.8 - Operate outriggers and jacks to lift and stabilize machine (Auto Function)

  • 2.9 - Operate outriggers and jacks to lift and stabilize machine (Manual Function)

  • 2.10 - Setup machine with stabilizers in fully extended position

  • 2.11 - Setup machine with stabilizers

  • 2.12 - Locate and use earth spike or earthing point on machine

3.0 - Operate a Travel Tower

  • 3.1 - Identify and function test both lower and basket control deadman switch (foot switch at controls or button on remote control)

  • 3.2 - Function unit from lower controls to perform operational checks as per manufacturers specifications

  • 3.3 - Function each operational movement of machine at least once to ensure functionality of controls and boom component

  • 3.4 - Function on-board generator

  • 3.5 - Function donkey motor

  • 3.6 - Using basket controls, Set basket in full height position and lower main boom smoothly

  • 3.7 - Using basket controls, travel to a fixed location whilst maintaining minimum distance without collision

  • 3.9 - Function Travel Tower using 2 or 3 movements at once, smoothly

  • 3.10 - Set articulating fly to able to function with maximum SWL in basket

  • 3.12 - Demonstrate an understanding of the "system of machine control"

4.0 - Emergency Proceedures

  • 4.1 - Function the emergency DC electric pump

  • 4.2 - Function the emergency hand pump

  • 4.3 - Function the emergency lowering levers in the order of 1. Retract main boom 2. Slew to suitable position to lower main boom 3. Lower main boom to allow egress from basket

  • 4.4 - Retrieval from overloading using emergency key

  • 4.5 - Override E-Stop from lower controls if pressed in basket

  • 4.6 - Lower boom with the use of bleed down function

  • 4.7 - Pack up functions of Travel Tower boom with use of electric DC pump or hand pump

  • 4.8 - Pack up functions of Travel Tower stabilizers and jacks with use of electric DC pump or hand pump

  • 4.9 - Identify and use Emergency Decent Devise or Controlled Decent Devise

5.0 - Computer Diagnostics and System Information

  • 5.5 - Locate and correctly use anemometer

  • 5.2 - Access fault codes via computer

  • 5.3 - Check battery condition and charge rate via computer

  • 5.4 - Check fluid levels via computer

  • 5.6 - Locate and read-out telemetry of Travel Tower boom lengths and position in various positions

  • 5.1 - Access machine hours
