The Right Chair

  • Is the chair in good condition?<br>

  • Is your chair set so that your elbows are parallel with or slightly above the height of your desk?<br>

  • Are you sitting as far back in your chair as possible?

  • Is the seat pan tilt horizontal?

  • Is their space between the edge of the chair and back of your legs?

  • Is the lumbar support of your chair in the small of your back?

  • Is the back rest upright or in a slightly reclined position?

  • Is the workstation at a suitable height?

Desk Height

  • Is your desk height set to allow enough height for your elbows to be at or slightly above the height of your desk?

Footrest

  • Are your feet resting firmly on the ground with a hip angle of 90 degrees? If not, you may need a footrest.

Monitor Position

  • Is the top of the screen at or slightly below eye level?

  • Is the screen approximately at arms reach away from you whilst seated?

Workspace

  • Is there sufficient workspace?

  • Are you regularly inputting data from documents into the computer? If so, you may need a height adjustable document holder for placement between the keyboard and monitor.

  • Is your mouse and other frequently used equipment positioned with an elbows reach away with your hands / wrists in a neutral position, shoulders relaxed and elbows by your side.

  • Is the floor area around the workstation area safe from possible trip hazards?

  • Is there sufficient light around you to work satisfactory?

  • Is the temperature of the workstation maintained to a satisfactory level?

LISTEN TO YOUR BODY - Recommendations

  • Get up and move around. Avoid prolonged static postures. Get your circulation going and breath deeply to get more oxygen to your muscles.<br>

  • Very daily activities and take short breaks.

  • Practice eye stretching. Hold your head still and in a forward facing neutral position. Then move your eyes upward focus on something. Wait a second or two and then move downward and repeat process. Repeat this process again with a side to side stretch.

  • Drink water up to 5-8 glasses through out the course of the day.
