  • Do the site users have a safe route to their place of work?

  • Is the site fenced and secure so that members of the public or unauthorised people cannot gain access?

  • Are permits for hot works being utilised correctly and closed down each day after the 1 hour fire watch?

  • Are any other permits being used on site - if so are they controlled correctly?

  • Are members of the public, visitors and other people passing the site protected from items such as falling material & moving machinery?

  • Are traffic routes kept clear and are they well lit?

  • Do vehicles have visual and reversing aids fitted - are banks people used to move traffic in or around other site users and members of the public?

  • Is the site tidy and well laid out?

  • Are mandatory signs in place such as traffic routes, authorised personal and PPE must be worn at all times?

  • Are welfare facilities such as toilets and canteen adequate and are they kept clean?

  • Are first aid facilities in place and do site users known where they are?

  • Have all workers been trained and instructed on safe manual handeling for all site users.

  • Is appropriate lifting equipment provided and used for lifting heavy loads. Are they using the right equipment for the right task? Is the equipment certified, working correctly, checked daily and being operated by a competent person.

  • Have existing services been identified and protected e.g overhead or buried electricity or gas lines? Are permits to dig being utilised?

  • Is the only power supply being used on site 110v and are there adequate transformer points etc on site?

  • Are collective measures in place to stop workers and objects from falling such as scaffolding and netting?

  • Are scaffolds erected, altered and dismantled by a competent person holding a CSCS scaffolding?

  • Are scaffolds inspected at least every 7 days by a competent person and the findings are recorded and held by the principle contractor?

  • Where collective fall protection systems are not possible are persons working at heights using appropriate fall arrest/restraint equipment?

  • Are ladders and step ladders used only for light work only and in where there is no other choice? Are ladder permits being used correctly?

  • Are COSHH regulations being followed?

  • Are all site users wearing the mandatory PPE hardhat, hi-viability vest/jacket and boots?

  • Are suitable protective measures being used to prevent or reduce exposure to noise and vibration?

  • Is work equipment, plant and machinery maintained in a safe condition and is it inspected regularly by a competent persons?

  • Are excavations adequately supported to reduce the risk of collapse and are they inspected regularly by a competent person?

  • Are people suitably trained and hold a minimum of a CSCS card as per BDP health & safety policy?

  • Do all employees and site users get information about potential risks and control measures in a language and at a level that they understand?

  • Any additional items/hazards in the workplace?

  • Has a toolbox talk been carried out? If so what was the topic?
