Complete e a Full check of the building each month during cyclone season

  • All Windows, louvres & glass doors are in good condition

  • Tape up windows with Masking Tape

  • All external doors are secure and withstand a storm

  • All hinges, latches & seals are to be checked to ensure they are in good condition

  • Check any plant room roof hatches

  • Trolley's, industrial bin to be brought inside the transit room.

  • Any issues found a work order is to be placed via portal & follow up work is to be completed before Cyclone season ( November to April)

Prepare Store Emergency Kit

  • Battery operated radio & Spare batteries

  • Battery operated torches, lanterns with spare batteries and bulbs (Candles and fuel lanterns are not recommended due to the danger of fire)

  • Battery Pack to charge Mobile Phone.

  • Toilet Paper / Towelettes (Wet ones)

  • Duck & masking tape

  • Disinfectant

  • Insect repellent & Sunscreen

  • Pliers, Screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, spanners, bolts, screws, nails ect for temporary repairs or fitting shutters.

  • Silicon sealant for sealing leaks & temporary repairs

  • Plastic storage containers

  • Paper & pencils

  • Whistle to alert SES / Emergency Team

  • Plastic sheeting or tarp

  • Plastic garbage bags with ties

  • Bottled water

  • Your Emergency Kit should be stored in an accessible location possibly in the room that will be your shelter.

Checklist

Start Of Cyclone Season

  • Update Leadership contact details in Area Folder and IMC Call out list.

  • Share Employee Contact details with Area Manager

  • Save contact details for the Cleaners in your personal phone.

  • Satellite Phone organised for potential store which may be affected by the cyclone.

  • Check with your local council and become familiar with your community disaster plan, and become aware of the local evacuation centre locations and any preferred routes.

  • Compiled a list of current emergency phone numbers, including numbers for your local police, fire, ambulance, State Emergency Service, local council, gas and electricity companies, and staff contacts?

  • Place orders for High Demand Cyclone stock

  • Organise Container at Toll for the months December to March

  • Print off Employee List with updated Contact Details (SM/ S2ic to take this home)

  • Team Talks on Cyclone Awareness and Safety.

  • Manual EFT refresher training to be completed with front end associates.

Cyclone Warning Issued

  • Contact Centre Management for trading hours, notify Area Manager.

  • IMC is to be contacted on a regular basis to make sure they are updated on current situation in store/ trading hours.

  • Cancel cleaning staff for store closures.

  • Discussion with store teams about who lives in flood affected areas, so that the store can plan around their shifts and offer assistance if necessary

  • Coordinate with Store managers in Area to prepare a team to assist cyclone affected stores*

  • Review Store Manager’s route to work. Determine history of flooding etc. for this route. Organise a second route to work for the store manager in case first route was to be cut off.

  • Organise a second Leader to be able to attend the store with the store manager. This person will preferable be close to the first or second route which has been planned previously.

  • Update Safety Specialist / Loss Prevention Specialist on current situation

  • Call All Staff affected in the cyclone to check safety and wellbeing

After Cyclone / Recovery

  • Assist Damages, organise work orders with maintenance team.

  • Organise for Cleaners to attended, extra cleaners with extra scrubber where required.

  • Contact, inform and work with Finance department and IT support if there is to be any long term blackouts.
