  • Is there a fire tag present on this door?

TOLERANCES - Doors should be hung to give an equal gap across the head, down both jambs and at the meeting edges (BS 8214:2016 - section 9.5.2). Failure of fire resisting door assemblies under test is very often due to burn through at the operating gap between the door leaf and the door frame. The typical gap as per certification is between 2mm and 4mm maximum.

DOOR FRAME

  • F1 - Is the overall condition of the door frame acceptable? I.e. is there any significant damage that could hinder the performance of the fire door assembly?

  • F2 - Is the timber used acceptable? Softwood or hardwood frames are required for FD30(s) fire resistance while hardwood frames are required for FD60(s) fire resistance.

  • F3 - Door Stop - stops must be a minimum 12mm deep, pinned and/or glued into position

  • F4 - Are the door frame joints acceptable? - all joints must be robust and mechanically fixed. The visible joint line must be secure with no visible gaps.

  • F5 - Intumescent Seals - intumescent should be installed in the door frame or the door edges. Seals should be damage free and consistent around the door frame.

  • F8 - Architrave - is there architrave installed?

  • F9 - Architrave - is the architrave installation adequate? 15mm coverage And minimum 15mm thick?

  • F10 - Any other comments

DOOR

  • D1 - Is the relative condition of the door leaf good? Is there any significant evidence of damage that will hinder the performance of the fire door assembly?

  • D2 - Door edge - is the relative condition of the door edge good?

  • D3 - Closure to the frame - are alignment tolerances adequate? Doors must not be proud of each other or from the frame by more than 1mm

  • D4 - Fire Signage - is the correct fire signage affixed to the face of the door? Fire door keep shut signs should be present on both sides of the door. For doors that are kept in the locked position (I.e. Riser doors) fire door keep locked signs should be installed

  • D5 - Any other comments

OPERATIONAL TEST

  • O1 - Can the door open and close adequately?

  • O2 - Can the door latch securely?

HARDWARE

  • H1 - Is there a self closing device installed? Fire doors can only operate correctly if they are fully closed at the time of the fire (BS 8214:2016 - section 11.4)

  • H2 - Is the self closing device operating correctly?

  • H3 - Hinges - are they installed correctly?

  • H4 - Hinges - all screws present?

  • H5 - Hinges - are they CE/EN marked?

  • H6 - Hinges - is there intumescent protection behind the hinge?

  • H7 - Locks - IS there a lock installed on this door?

  • H7 - Locks - position between 900mm to 1200mm from finished floor level

  • H8 - Locks - is the lock CE/EN marked?

  • H9 - Locks - is there intumescent protection around the lock case?

  • H10 - Flush Bolts - Are there flush bolts installed on this door?

  • H10 - Flush Bolts - can the bolt operate and engage properly?

  • H11 - Flush Bolts - is there intumescent protection around the flush bolt?

  • H12 - Any other information?

GLAZING

  • G1 - Does the door have a vision panel?

  • G3 - What is the overall dimension of the glazed vision panel? For compliance a review must be undertaken from the manufacturer test evidence

  • G2 - Is the glass stamped with its type, fire rating and manufacturer? All glass marking should be permanent and clear, able to be seen and read after installation in the door

  • G4 - What is the overall dimension of the glazing bead?

  • G5 - Is there fire glazing intumescent behind the glazing bead?

  • G6 - Any other information

Fire Mastic

  • F1 - Are you inspecting the fire mastic on this door? ie. removing architrave ?

  • F2 - Gap up to 10mm - is the installation acceptable?

  • F3 - Gap from 10mm to 20mm - is the installation acceptable?

  • F4 - Gap from 20mm and beyond - is the installation acceptable?
