The responsible person should test and examine the system to ensure it is capable of operating under alarm conditions. This is done by operating a manual call point during normal working hours at about the same time each week to prove the control equipment is working, the fire alarm sounders operate, and a signal is received by the alarm receiving centre where appropriate. Ensure a different call point is used each week until all call points have been tested. The test should last no more than one minute.
Reminder (If Applicable): Contact the alarm receiving centre prior to, and immediately after, the test to prevent unwanted fire signal transmission to the fire service.

How to test a fire alarm call point: Manual call point testing procedures can differ slightly depending on the manufacturer. However, most follow similar steps to the below: 1. Insert the test key into the allocated slot on the call point box and unlock. 2. Slide down the cover to move the glass. Or watch the glass automatically move out of place, depending on the manufacturer (this should sound the alarm). 3. Slide the cover back into position (if necessary) and lock the box using the test key. The glass should be back in its original position. 4. Reset the alarm on the fire alarm control panel.
Are all alarm sounders working and can they be heard above background noise?
Have any visual alarms activated?
Have all automatic fire door closers activated and door locks released, where designed to do so?
Are any auto diallers/connections to alarm receiving centres are active?
