Start of Session:

  • Turn on isolation switches, compressors and suction unit

  • Turn on computer and chair

  • Turn on water distiller (if applicable)

  • Inspect room for visible faults

  • Clean and disinfect work surfaces / chair / unit / spittoon

  • Ensure water bottle is filled (Alpron if applicable)

  • Flush dental unit water lines- 2 minutes

  • Review Doylist- e.g. lab work ready for today

  • Ensure all instruments are ready for the session

  • Keyboard cover

  • Clean patient safety glasses

  • Ensure taps free of lime scale

  • Fill disinfectant water bath with Impression disinfectant

Throughout the day you are required to carry out the following tasks:

Before patient

  • Run water through couplings and 3in1 syringe for 30 seconds

  • Check aspirator is clear

  • Change gloves and masks

  • Clean and disinfect work surfaces / chair / unit / spittoon

  • Ensure eye protection is ready for dentist, nurse and patient

After Patient

  • Clinical waste is disposed in appropriate bins

  • Send reusable items to decontamination area

  • Ensure all radiographs and lab work correctly processed

End of session:

  • Clean manifold and filter on dental unit and spittoon

  • Clean and disinfect all work surfaces

  • Run solution through suction

  • Flush dental unit water lines- 2 minutes

  • Remove/clean water bottle is applicable

  • Clean chair, unit and base of chair, clinical / non-clinical waste bins

  • Turn Computer and all equipment off

  • Collect all required lab work for next day

  • Turn compressor & suction motor off

  • Ensure chair is left in an upright position

  • Ensure All instruments are removed from the surgery

  • Ensure surgery is left clean and clutter free

  • Report any maintenance issues to Practice Manager

  • Ensure Floor is mopped.

  • Dispose of all clinical waste

  • Any comments
