- Trial Excavation-Slip Trench: The area will be scanned and marked to identify underground services, existing scarring will also be referred to and prints utilised to identify any services under ground, the area will be cut and excavation will be by hand to a suitable depth to lay duct.
- Modular Jointing Chamber: Excavation will commence by hand to sizes 600mm wide 1200mm length, 900mm deep, above the existing service duct. Once excavation is completed a type 1 sub base floor will be levelled in the bottom of the excavation, and the modular sections will be inserted by hand upto ground level.
- Drilling a modular type joint box: The chamber will be tested for gases prior to removal of the cover. Once a negative reading is established the are toward the eng of the chamber will be excavated to a depth of 400mm and wide enough to sit the number of ducts required, a battery drill with a 104mm hole cutter will be used to drill the chamber from both side. Once drilled the duct will be inserted and the edge around the duct will be sealed with a silicon or acrylic sealant.
- Mole ploughing Duct: Pilot excavations and site survey will be done as part of the initial checks on site. The moleplough is a CASE 360 Multi Utility Machine and is equipped with a vibrating plough, the ploughing element of the works is carried out after stringent checks have been done. A Pilot excavation will be carried out at the foot of the lead in chamber and a slip trench will also be excavated to a suitable depth to insert the plough attachment. Ducting is held on the front of the Case 360 machine and is automatically fed into the ground by the vibrating plough attachment. One person operates the Plough from inside the cab and one person walks behind the plough “banking” the driver and alerting the driver of any anomalies. The trench is self backfilling following plough activity.
- Laying of duct:The trench line will be established with a start and end point each day for the duration of the works, the area will be barriered off using interlocking barriers, excavation will be by mechanical means, a 1.5 tonne mini digger will be used with a 150mm wide bucket (no teeth). Duct will be laid in 6m lengths and a rope will be fed through to allow cabling activity.
