GUIDANCE

  • Standard signage: All stores should have a composite poster in their front window combining No Smoking (appropriate to country), WEEE & Guide Dogs Only

  • Visitors Notice should be shown when signing in

  • Stores without BOH motion sensor controlled lighting should be displaying a "switch it off" sticker above each light switch

  • Regulation 14 of the Workplace Regulations requires that all glazing where someone could walk into it should be clearly marked

  • Only stores where asbestos has been identified will have an asbestos report available

  • Fire doors should be signed "Fire Door Keep Shut", Closed when not in use and never propped open. Door must securely fit into frame and vision panels must not be blocked or obscured

  • Emergency lighting should be sufficient to allow occupants to escape safely, specific areas include: Landings, changes of direction etc. Compliance also requires the Auditor to check hat all units are charging correctly

  • All escape signage should be "Running Man" type any signs with "FIRE ESCAPE" only must be replaced. As wit emergency lighting signs are required at specific locations i.e. Changes in direction & above all doors on fire escape routes

  • Many stores will have additional security locks or drop bars installed, these MUST be in the open position / removed when he building is occupied. All such exit doors must carry the sign "Security fastening must be removed when building is occupied" or similar text

  • Stores with sprinkler systems installed should be made aware of the sprinkler impairment form and process, a suitable maintenance / test process should also be implemented
