Section 1 : Forklift Inspection

  • Does the forklift operator perform a pre shift inspection?

  • Which method was used?

  • Does he make a visual check of the lift truck?

  • Does it perform a functional check on the move?

  • Why was the inspection not carried out?

Section 2 : Operating rules

  • Has the operator been trained on and is authorized to use forklifts?

  • Does he wear a safety belt or any other restraint device?

  • Does he respect the lifting capacity of the forklift?

  • Does he operate the forklift at a speed that will permit it to be brought to a stop in a safe manner?

  • Does he keep arms, hands, legs and head within the confines of the forklift?

  • Does he carry only the number of loads permitted at one time?

  • When travelling with or without loads, does he make sure the forks are as close as possible to the floor?

  • When travelling with loads, does he make sure the mast is tilted slightly backwards?

  • Does he operate the forklift in reverse if the load is obstructing his/her view?

  • Does he look in the direction of travel when backing up?

  • Does he keep to the routes identified for forklifts?

  • Does he take heed of stop signs at intersections?

  • Does he/she sound the horn and slow down at intersections?

Section 3 : Parking Rules

  • Does the operator park the forklift in the area identified for this purpose?

  • Does he lower the forks to the floor?

  • Does he neutralize the controls and engage the parking brake?

  • Does he shut off the engine?
