Stockroom

  • Are all storage racks in good condition?

  • Are materials stored safely in the racks ?

  • Are articles and equipment stored so as to prevent damage or deterioration? (i.e. food stored in plastic containers)

  • Are all materials and substances stored in accordance with on-site rules (COSHH)?

  • Are there clear and designated walkways in stockroom to allow access to all areas?

  • Are Good Housekeeping practices in place, with clear bin bags available and cardboard cleared/baled daily?

Welfare

  • Are the washing and toilet facilities being kept clean and tidy?

  • Is there hot water provided in toilets?

  • Is there hot water provided in staff canteen?

  • Are the Kitchen/staffroom facilities being kept clean and tidy?

Fire

  • Are the emergency exits free from obstruction and kept unlocked when the premises are occupied?

  • Are fire exit signs clearly displayed in the stockroom and on the shopfloor?

  • Are all fire escape routes lit adequately, including in the event of a power failure?

  • Are any outside fire routes kept clear of rubbish?

  • Is the assembly point clearly marked outside, staff areas and by the fire alarm panel?

Ladders

  • Do the ladders have a designated area when not in use, off the shopfloor?

  • Are suitable step ladders/stepstool provided for access to stock

  • Has the Ladder tag system been set-up and in use?

  • Do you know where to get replacement parts or new ladder from?

General

  • Is there adequate space between fixtures and fittings to allow staff and customers to pass safely?

  • Are stairs, aisles and passageways clear of obstruction and in a good condition?

  • Is suitable lighting provided? Offices,canteen etc

  • Are there any trailing cables that could cause a person to trip/fall?

  • Is a good standard of housekeeping set up?

  • Are spillages and breakage procedures in place?
