Purpose: To ensure that Funyak guides training is consistently within the guidelines and parameters set by Dart River Adventures management and that the technical ability, safety practices, and customer relations performance of the staff member are up to company standards.
A copy of the Funyak Safe Operating Procedures (S.O.P) will be made available to trainee guides. The following assessment will outline standards set by Dart River Adventures for all Funyak guides. Some of the information will vary due to general day-to-day river conditions and the personal training methods adopted by the individual trainers. -

The employee has completed an induction to Dart River Adventures, which included the following;

Signing of employment agreement

Has read, understood, and signed the Funyak Safe Operational Plan (SOP) and will comply with this at all times

Knows the location of the Emergency Management Plan (EMP) and understands his / her place on the initial response team and is fully familiar with all aspects of the plan and where all safety equipment is located

The employee can point out the locations of:<br>• Emergency First Aid Kits in the workshop, base building, and Rockburn shelter<br>• Fire Extinguishers (workshop and base building)<br>• Meeting point for fire and earthquake (workshop and base building)

The employee has a First Aid Certificate at unit standard 6400 or equivalent overseas certification. which is no more than 2 years old

EpiPens are carried on all Funyak trips. They must only be self-administered by the patient! <br><br>Except when DRA staff have been given direct instruction from a 111 call operator or medical professional (we only carry them as we work in a remote location). <br><br>Trainers, please ask the employee to sign this box to confirm this understanding.

The guide can identify the location of cleaning supplies and cleanliness/ storage requirements for customer wetsuits, booties, fleeces, spray jackets, changing rooms, drying rooms, vehicles, and facilities both up the valley and at the base.

2. Personal Paddling

Effectively manoeuvre a Funyak on Dart River. (i.e. demonstrating fluidity, good decision making and control)

Identify different hydrological features and their effects on the group: Stopper or hole, Strainer, Eddy, Eddy line, Downstream V and Boils

Demonstrates a ferry glide

Demonstrates breaking in and out of the flow

I hereby confirm that I have completed the training program set by Dart River Adventures. I have has been assessed to be competent in guiding a group of up to eight customers on the Dart River, in accordance with the Safe Operation Plan and Risk Register. I feel confident and capable to perform all duties required of a Funyak Guide at Dart River Adventures
