LP Gas Safety at Public Events (ESV) Checklist

  • This checklist is an electronic version of the Energy Safe Victoria 'Gas safety at public events' checklist which is a MANDATORY requirement for all caterers and food outlets using LP Gas. (Version 04/2015)

    The event organiser may remove from the site any person who fails to complete the checklist, makes a false declaration or knowingly uses an unsafe gas installation.

Food Vendor Details:

  • The catering vendor (the person in charge of a vendor site) shall designate a suitably competent and experienced person to be responsible for the safe use of LP Gas for the period over which their catering services are provided at the event.

General

  • The questions below are no longer referenced in the checklist HOWEVER as they are required in the Code of Practice they have been included below.

  • Do staff know what to do in an emergency ?

  • Is there a suitable fire extinguisher handy ? - It is recommended that a dry chemical fire extinguisher 2A60B(E) be available for LP Gas fires

  • Have staff been trained in the use of fire extinguishers an fire blankets ?

  • Has someone been trained to change gas cylinders ?

  • Does the procedure for cylinder connection/changeover include leak testing with a soapy water solution ?

Appliances

  • How many LP Gas appliances are being used ?

  • Can proof of certification be provided for each appliance ?

  • Check the appliance and confirm that it is certified and fit for the purpose for which it is being used
