1.0 - Floors

  • 1.1 - Are all parts of the floor even and non-slip?

  • 1.2 - Are floors free from tripping hazards , e.g. Worn Lino/carpet, mats, boxes, trailing wires, rubbish, etc?

  • 1.3 - Are floors cleaned regularly and are spills cleared up immediately?

2.0 - Aisles, Exits and Doors

  • 2.1 - Are all aisles sufficiently wide to allow people to circulate easily?

  • 2.2 - Are aisles free from obstruction?

  • 2.3 - Do all doors open freely and easily?

  • 2.4 - Is door furniture in good working order e.g handles, locks, closures etc.?

  • 2.5 - Are doors which require vision panels constructed from toughened/laminated glass?

  • 2.6 - Are there any mats/carpets which make a tripping hazard?

  • 2.7 - Do fire exits display the correct notices?

3.0 - Lighting

  • 3.1 - Is all lighting adequate and well-positioned for the purpose?

  • 3.2 -Are all light fittings and light switches in good order and checked regularly?

4.0 - Windows and Ventilation

  • 4.1 - Are windows easily openable to maintain comfortable working conditions even in hot weather?

  • 4.2 - Do any windows open safely, not perturbing into circulation areas?

  • 4.3 - Are window fastenings in good repair and un-damaged?

  • 4.4 - Is window glass free of cracks?

  • 4.5 - Are windows cleaned regularly?

  • 4.6 - where there are large areas of glass facing direct sunlight is there provision for shading, e.g. Venetian blinds?

  • 4.7 - is every enclosed space ventilated by a sufficient quantity of fresh or purified air?

5.0 - Furniture and Fittings

  • 5.1 - Is furniture located in a safe place I.e. not too near to the door or likely to block other areas where people walk?

  • 5.2 - Are cabinets, cupboards, shelves etc. stable and fixed where required?

  • 5.3 Are all chairs in good working order and fit for intended purpose?

  • 5.4 - Are furniture of fittings in reasonable condition with no loose, worn or broken parts?

6.0 - Storage

  • 6.1 - Are all storage units stable and fixed where necessary?

  • 6.2 - Are all shelf mountings secure and in a safe condition?

  • 6.3 - Are steps available for high shelves?

  • 6.4 - Are there any flammable materials exposed/stored inappropriately which maybe considered as a fire risk?

  • 6.5 - Is there sufficient storage with adequate access?

7.0 - Specialist

  • 7.1 - Are there any trailing cables e.g. Telephone, extension leads etc.?

  • 7.2 - Has all electrical equipment including personal items been PAT tested?

  • 7.3 - Is equipment such as guillotines adequately guarded and in good working order?

  • 7.4 - Do computer workstations comply with legal requirements and are safety rules prominently displayed? (e.g. Guidance on recommended time to be spent at a computer screen/regular breaks, posture and how to position workstations and furniture for comfort, not eating or drinking at workstations etc.

  • 7.5 - Fire extinguishers in reasonable proximity to the room and suitable for all applications e.g. CO2 for electrical fires and are staff trained on how to use them?
