Do you feel impaired to carry out our duties?

Have you had adequate rest?

If you feel impaired AT ANY TIME, STOP what you are doing and immediately contact your Manager for further instructions.

External Vehicle Condition Including Truck, Trailer & Dolly

Structure and bodywork sound and free of damage including trailer/s

Mirrors, wiper blades in good working condition and windscreen has clear forward vision with no cracks/chips

All driving lights, indicators, brake lights and clearance lights, reflectors and lenses are working and clean, free from damage

Is the load restrained to load restraint standards, policies and procedures for each trip?

Are tyres free from damage, wheel nuts secured, tyre pressure is correct (visual check), tyre tread integrity is within operating tolerance and wheel guards secured?

Spare tyre not damaged, correct pressure, jack and tools available

On board scales are working and calibrated within tolerances

Exhaust system has no leaks and is structurally sound

There are no air hoses/hydraulic/fuel or water leaks. No loose parts or foreign materials caught in, or under vehicle

Are all visible structural members secured including trailer/s ramps, gates, doors, toolboxes, flooring

Check ring feeder is in good working order

All warning signs/flags/beacons to operating standards

Are the crane/tilt tray/winch/tipping bins in good working order?

Check the integrity of the suspension - no leaks or cracks and no broken bolts or pins

Engine & cabin mounts are in good condition

Fluids - To be at Correct Operating Levels

Engine oil level, coolant level, fuel level, hydraulic fluid level

Check brake/clutch and power steering fluid

Windscreen wash level

Condition of battery

Crane hydraulic fluid levels, no leaking hoses

Vehicle Interior and Equipment

Condition & function of seat and seat belts

All gauges in cab working, no abnormal alarms

Cab and sleeper air-conditioner working

In cab air demister is working

Is the vehicle interior clean and free from rubbish?

Breakdown warning triangle, first-aid kit (in date), fire extinguisher (in date), UHF radio and good working order

Do you have all the necessary equipment and tools, chains, webbing, high friction rubber etc. to complete the job tasks?

Vehicle handbook and driver’s manual in cab?

Do you have all documents required for this trip i.e. Work Diary, permits etc?

Functional Checks Before Starting Journey

Are the vehicle and trailer/s including dolly registered? Are the label/s affixed?

Is your vehicle under an accreditation scheme? Are label/s affixed to accreditation standard?

Warning lights, alarms, brake failure indicator, pressure/vacuum gauges working

All coupling kingpin/turntable/ring feeder connected, tug test performed prior to departure

Horn working, washers & wipers operating to standards

Steering and driveline is working, no abnormal noises or knocks

All connections connected for required trip? Hoses, leads, trailer/s, kingpin, ring feeder

Are AdBlue and fuel at correct operating levels?

Is the vehicle due/ overdue for a service?

Next truck service Due?

Next service due on trailer/s?

Have the trailer/s landing legs been checked?

Warning signs and flags not obstructed and warning beacon working

Truck and trailer brake test performed and brakes working?

Do you have all required PPE for the task?

Functional Checks During the Journey

Check the integrity of the suspension. No leaks, cracks and no broken bolts or pins?

Warning lights and warning signs are working and not obstructed

No abnormal noise, vibration, odours i.e., air, oil, fuel or water leaks

Visual condition of tyres - check tyres for damage, wheel nuts , pressure, security and the tread integrity within operating tolerance?

Is the load secured to load restraint standards policies and procedures?

Instruments and gauges are working in operating range

Check all connection airlines, hydraulic, turntable, kingpin, ring feeder
