  • Has there been any deviation from the design and excavation?

  • Any changes in general appearance or shape since the last inspection?

Crests (Top of face)

  • Is there inadequate stand-off to the site boundary or haul road/infrastructure?

  • Is there any cracking along the top of the face?

  • If cracks are present is any water entering them?

  • Is there any lowering or settlement of the ground behind the crest of the face?

  • Is there any ponding of water behind the crest?

  • Has there been any surcharging of material behind the crest?

Face

  • Is the face being excavated steeper than the max specified?

  • Is there any evidence of bulging or cracking on the faces?

  • Has there been any rockfall from the faces?

  • Are there any loose blocks, rock masses or overhangs on the face?

  • Is there any water issuing from the face?

  • Is there any displacement across discontinuities in the rock eg. along joints, bedding planes etc?

  • Have any unexpected geological conditions appeared in the face since the last inspection?

Toe of face

  • Can any movement of the foundation adjacent to the toe of the tip be seen?

  • Is there any standing water at the toe of the face?

  • Has there been any excavation at or near the toe of the face which is not in accordance with the design?
