  • Have hand held grinders got a guard over the grinding disc and it is secured from moving / rotating around the grinding wheel? (centrally located)

  • Do all hand held grinders NOT have a trigger lock on them that allows the unit to continue operating without holding the trigger? (Deadman Switch)

  • Are all hand grinders complete with handles ? ( All hand held grinders a required to have a handle)

  • Is the grinding disc in good condition, no cracks and free of excessive wear?

  • Are the electrical tools grinder and drills double insulated? (Equipment is generally manufactured with a non-conductive (insulated) enclosure, and is marked either with the words 'DOUBLE INSULATED or with the symbol to allow easy identification.

  • Is the cord on the power tool in good condition free of cuts, burns and signs of mistreatment?

  • Are the power tools in current test tag date?

  • Do all electric extension cords attached to the grinders and/or drills have moulded plugs, free of any damage and/or with electrical tape?

  • Field Check- In work activities observed at the where electric hand tools are in use, are the hand tools in use appropriate for the job, fit for purpose? (grinder disc not damaged, drill is centrally located in Chuck and does not wobble)

  • Field Check- Do workers remove energy source when changing grinding discs and are they trained?

  • Field Check- Is the material being grinded or drilled secured/clamped in position?
