Front of house and shop floor checklist

  • Check that shopping trolleys are secure in bays

  • Check store entrance for any slip/trip hazards

  • Check staff rosters to ensure appropriate rostering is being used

  • Check that all staff are wearing appropriate uniform (neat and tidy appearance, no loose clothing or jewellery, sturdy enclosed footwear).

  • Check that staff are using safety steps/ladders to stack shelves above shoulder height

  • Check that staff are using safe manual handling techniques

  • Check that stackers have sheathed or foldable knives for use when cutting boxes/fruit & veg

  • Check that exit signs are clearly visible and in working order

  • Check that all emergency exits are clear of obstacles

  • Check notice board for current OHS Committee minutes, OHS Chairperson name; First aid officers name; Anti bullying information, important announcements etc.

  • Check that all first aid kits are easily accessible and adequately stocked

  • Check that any staff operating a forklift holds the appropriate licence or is being directly supervised by a licences operator

  • Check that all staff operating in and around forklifts are wearing high-vis vests

  • Check that staff in back of house are wearing sturdy enclosed footwear

  • Check that staff are using safe manual handling techniques

  • Check that stackers have sheathed or foldable knives for use when cutting boxes/fruit & veg

  • Check that exit signs are clearly visible and in working order

  • Check that staff in prep rooms/deli are equipped with cut resistant gloves

  • Check that all emergency exits are clear of obstacles
