MEANS OF ESCAPE & ASSEMBLY AREAS

  • Are all escape routes clear and unobstructed?

  • Are all external escape routes clearly indicated?

  • Do the emergency door devices (e.g. push bars etc) on all escape routes to the assembly area operate satisfactory?

  • Are all fire doors fully closed and not wedged open? Note: fire doors can be held open using approved hold open devices (either via magnetic devices or Dorgards); any other device (wooden blocks, paper etc) must be removed.

  • Are posters displayed only on notice boards? Any other posters not on designated notice boards should be removed.

  • Are the premises, specifically in corridors and stairwells (except designated waste areas) kept clear of all kinds of refuse, packaging waste and storage or clutter (such as boxes, deliveries)?

  • Are the assembly areas unobstructed and accessible?

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

  • Are all fire extinguishers in the correct designated position (i.e. on hooks or stands) and ready for use?

  • Are all pins and seals (tags) provided and intact?

  • Are clear procedures in place for the use of these extinguishers?

FIRE ACTION NOTICES

  • Are sufficient fire evacuation notices in place and unobstructed?

FIRE WARNING SYSTEM

  • Are all manual call points (red and green break glass units) unobstructed?
