Inspection details & frequency

  • If you are issued a ladder it must be inspected prior to use . Record all details

  • Ladders in prolonged use or with one particular site must be inspected every 7 days

  • Ladders which sustain damage either by accident or vandalism should be taken out of service immediately . Report the incident to your Contracts Manager

  • All metal ladders should have slip resistant rubber or plastic feet .

  • Ladders should never be painted as this could hide dangerous defects from view .

  • General condition sound clean/dry/free from wet paint/oil/med/etc ?

  • No cracks in frame

  • No treads cracked broken or loose

  • Not painted

  • Stiles ( the outside uprights of the ladder ) Not damaged or bent

  • No warping or splitting ( wood )

  • No sharp edges or dents ( metal )

  • Footpads ok

  • Caps / rubber fittings ok

  • No bottoms / diagonals , loose / twisted / missing

  • No treads cracked / broken / loose

  • Top hinge not worn or broken
