Loading Docks Inspection Checklist

  • All loading dock signage and line marking in good condition and in accordance with 'Westfield Design Standards and Guidelines (reference: 40.4002)'

  • Barriers (bollards, fences armco) located between truck manoeuvring areas & pedestrian safety zones where practical to protect pedestrians.

  • Authorised Persons Only" signage clearly displayed at each access way to loading docks

  • Compactor secured from unauthorised use when unattended

  • Lighting adequate and all operational

  • Intercom and / or access control systems if installed working correctly.

  • Pedestrian walkways clearly defined

  • Fences, bollards and barriers secure and operational

  • No excess materials (pallets, trolleys, fixtures)

  • Authorised materials stacked neatly and out of access ways (within appointed line marked storage zones)

  • Waste management processes signage in place

  • Dock signage identification clearly displayed at street or circulation road entry

  • Sight lines for vehicles entering /leaving dock adequate - If required is signage/ warning lights located at dock entries in good order.

  • Gates and/or roller shutters all operational

  • Adequate truck waiting zone identified outside of dock, stop zone allocated at entry and all truck unloading bays clearly marked/ numbered. All truck manoeuvring areas kept clear.

  • Is public circulation for parcel pick up safely separated from truck circulation

  • fork lift (if applicable) temporary safety bollards used to delineate a clear area when unloading

  • No equipment missing from fire points (e.g. extinguishers)

  • Extinguishers mounting in good order

  • Fire equipment not obstructed

  • Fire Hose reels - no damage, hose nozzle stowed, unobstructed

Bailers

  • No fire hazards around baler

  • Baler in good working condition

  • Baler cage in good repair (e.g. no gaps, no sharp edges)

  • Signage 'Operated by trained and authorised Personnel Only' clearly displayed

  • String in reach and not tangled around equipment

  • Operational buttons intact

  • Safety mechanism operating

  • No trip hazards around baler

  • Trolley available for moving bales (if applicable)

  • Signage highlighting manual handling techniques clearly displayed

Compactors

  • Cage accessible to the retailers in a safe manner

  • No fire hazards or build up of combustibles around motor

  • Operational buttons intact and operational

  • Any visible damage to compactor

  • Signage 'Operated by Trained and Authorised Personnel Only' clearly displayed

  • Signage advising no unauthorised access to the compactor

  • Garbage not left in common walkways

  • Compactor container leaking?

Roller Shutters

  • No sharp objects protruding from roller shutter

  • Motor in working order

  • Chain is connected and not loose

  • No visible damage of roller shutter, or rust

  • No obstruction on floor during operation

  • Switches not broken

  • Roller guide in correct position

  • Roller guides not worn, not loose

  • Roller slats not separated
