Pest Control

  • Doors have proper door sweeps to prevent pests from entering the building.

  • Traps are checked and documented on a scheduled basis to ensure sufficient tracking of pests.

  • No clutter interior or exterior of the building that could potentially become a pest harborage area (old product, idle equipment, open-ended pipes, clutter).

  • No evidence of pest activity (droppings, feathers, cob-webbing, insect trails, etc.).

  • Hoses and piping are capped off and stored off the floor to prevent any harborage areas for pests.

Housekeeping/GMP

  • Hoses are picked up off of the floor and on designated reels to prevent trip hazard in the area.

  • Trash cans/dumpsters/carts are emptied frequently to prevent any odors or insect activity.

  • Appropriate PPE is provided and being used, and employees are following GMP.

  • There is no standing water/old product in the area, which prevents any odors or insect activity.

  • Plant personnel has ensured there are no oil leaks, or any other leaks, on equipment that could potentially be a food safety risk.

  • All chemicals and lubricants are being stored in the proper cabinet (locked) and not out in the department when not in use.

  • There is no evidence of food/drink, or tobacco being used in the area. Water bottles must be thrown away.

  • All product storage tanks are properly labeled and legible (confined space, product name, tank name, etc.). Also, tanks are in good repair, clean, and closed.

  • There is no idle equipment other than equipment staged to use. Also, no stacks of un-used pallets in the area.

  • Ancillary areas (restrooms, locker rooms, etc.) are clean, free of trash and debris, walls and floors wiped down.

Building Structure

  • The lighting is in good repair and adequate throughout the department.

  • The stairs, walls, floors, and other structures in the department are in good repair. (Includes inspection of exposed concrete and carbon steel)

  • The department is free of peeling paint in all areas.

  • All doors are in good repair and are able to close.

  • All glass throughout the department is intact.

  • All overheads and overhead piping is clean and free of debris.

Tools/Secondary Container

  • All tools are being stored properly on their shadow board or designated area.

  • Tools used for cleaning and job tasks are clean and ready to use.

  • Secondary storage containers (buckets, product contact tools, and waste containers included) are clean and labeled for what they are being used for.

  • Any gaskets/seals and product contact parts used for maintenance or plant activity, are clean, stored properly, and not on the floor.

  • Maintenance and/or contracting group has cleaned up any tools or materials after working on equipment.
