Questions / Safety checks

T = Tyres

  • Check tyre thread depth and record measurement

  • Check cracks or bubbles in the side or sharp objects in the tyre

  • Check tyre pressure. (The correct tyre pressure is displayed on the inside of the driver door frame)

W = Windows, Wipers , Mirrors

  • Check your wiper blades for wear and tear

  • Check your windscreen for cracks and chips

  • Clean your windows and mirrors inside and out

  • Check your windscreen washer fluid is full and working

I = Indicators

  • Turn on your hazard lights and check that all indicators are working

R = Rust

  • Check for obvious corrosion that could weaken the vehicle structure

L = Lights

  • Check your headlights, reversing lights and brake lights are working (reverse up to a wall to see the brake light reflection)

  • Check the lenses are clear and not cracked

Other

  • Emergency - Fire Extinguisher: Is this in place and compliant

  • Emergency - First Aid Kit: Is this in place and well stocked

  • Check the seat belts are all working correctly

Items to check while driving

  • Brakes - Feel it, hear it, see it .. feel for vibration when you brake, listen for noise, see if the vehicle pulls to one side as theses are all signs of break failure.

  • Suspension (If the vehicle feels spongy when stopping, feels like it is rocking when stopping or if there is vibration)

  • Exhaust (Check for more than normal smoke)

  • Noise (Listen for any abnormal engine noise)
