Animal Welfare

  • Is there a person in charge to ensure the cleaning of feed yards on a planned basis

  • Is there a person in charge to ensure the maintenance of surfaces on a planned basis is carried out and that pen surfaces can drain freely

  • Is there clean and potable fresh water readily available and are troughs cleaned regularly.

  • Is there a person that is responsible for communicating with the transport company or driver to provide effective instructions on the practices and arrangements for unloading and managing livestock if cattle are delivered out of hours.

  • Are there SOPs in place for humane destruction methods so that there is an immediate loss of consciousness followed by death while unconscious.

  • Does the person humanely destroying an animal take reasonable action to confirm the animal is dead or to ensure death.

  • Is there a Pregnancy and Calving Management Plan documented and implemented in order to manage the welfare of cows/heifers and calves.

  • Is there an accredited Animal Welfare Officer on site.
