NORTHSIDE CUSTODIAL CLEANING STANDARDS
NORTHSIDE ISD uses a combination of levels, Average and Above Average , of the Physical Plant Administrators (APPA) standards, for our our standards of cleanliness.
Above average is the uppermost standards for most school cleaning and is generally reserved for restrooms, special education areas, kindergarten areas, or food service areas.
Average is the norm for most school. -
EXCELLENT - LEVEL 1
Orderly spotless, cleaning results in a "spotless" building, as might normally be found in a hospital environment or corporate suite.
Floors and base moldings shine and/ or are bright and clean. There is no buildup in in corners sports along walls, but there can be build up of two days worth of dust,merit, stains, or streaks.
All vertical and horizontal surfaces are clean , but marks, dust, smudges, and fingerprints are noticeable with close observation.
Washrooms and shower and tile fixtures gleam and are odor free. Supplies are adequate.
Trash containers and pencil sharpeners are empty, clean and odor free -
ABOVE AVERAGE - LEVEL 2
Ordinary Tidiness, cleaning is the uppermost standard for most school cleaning and generally reserved for rest rooms, special education classrooms, kindergarten classrooms, and food service areas.
Floors and base moldings shine and/ or are bright and clean. There is no buildup in in corners sports along walls, but there can be build up of two days worth of dust,merit, stains, or streaks.
All vertical and horizontal surfaces are clean , but marks, dust, smudges, and fingerprints are noticeable with close observation.

AVERAGE - LEVEL 3
Cleaning is the norm for most school facilities. It is acceptable it is acceptable for most stakeholders and does not pose a health issue.
Floors are swept clean, but upon close observation dust, dirt, stains, as well as buildup of dirt, dust, and/ or floor finish in corners and along walls, can be seen.
There are dull spots and/or matted carpet in walking lanes, and streaks and splashes or base molding.
All vertical and horizontal surfaces have obvious dust, dirt, marks, smudges, and fingerprints.
Lamps all work and fixtures are clean.
Trash containers and pencil sharpeners are empty, clean , and odor free. -
POOR - LEVEL 4
This level is not normally acceptable in a school environment. Class rooms would be cleaned every other day, carpets would be vacuumed every third day and dusting would occur once a month.
Floors are swept clean, but are dull. Colors are dingy, and there is an obvious enough buildup of dust,dirt, and or floor finish in corners and along walls. Base molding is dull and contains streaks and splashes.
All Vertical and horizontal surfaces are conspicuous dust, dirt, and smudges, fingerprints, and will be hard to remove.
Less than 5% of lamps are burned out, fixtures are dingy.
Trash containers are are stained, and marks are evidence of neglect, trash containers smell sour. -
UNACCEPTABLE - LEVEL 5
Unkept Neglect, floors are dingy and floor finish is dull, carpet flooring is dirty, visible stains, there is conspicuous buildup of dirt, dust, cobwebs, along the floor base and corners.
Vertical and horizontal surfaces are have accumulation of of dust, dirt, and smudges.
More than 5% of lamps are burned out, fixtures are dusty, and insects are present in the lamp covers
