  • The main causes of injury include: pedestrians being struck or crushed by a forklift or its load; drivers being crushed by the forklift or its load caused by the tipping over off the truck; the load being accidentally dropped.

  • Any deficiencies must be reported to the line manager so the appropriate action can be taken to rectify the issues raised.

  • Has the charger itself been switched OFF?

  • Have you checked the tyre pressure, where pneumatic tyres are fitted? Tyres should also be checked for damage?

  • Have you checked the brakes, including service brakes, parking brake and steering gear?

  • Have you checked the audible warnings including reversing beepers, (where fitted), and horn?

  • Are the lights operational?

  • Have you checked the fuel, water and oil in internal combustion engines for levels and leaks?

  • Have you checked the batteries for charge level and leaks, condition of connections?

  • Have you checked the lifting mechanisms, tilting and side shift for hydraulic fluid leaks and ease of operation?

  • Have you checked the condition of forks, e.g. heal wear, cracks and security of fixing?

  • Have you checked the driver’s seat for sit and ride vehicles, security of mounting?

  • Have you checked the seat belts for operation?

  • Have you checked roll cage for security and damage?

  • Have you checked the condition of screens for vision?

  • Have you checked the windscreen wipers for operation?

  • Have you checked mirrors for vision and adjustability?

  • Is the capacity plate clean and readable?
