Identify the hazards on site

  • Confirm with the person in control of the site if the site is known to have asbestos and where it is. Is the site SAFE?

  • Could I be struck from falling objects or mobile equipment?

  • Are there any excavations on site that I need to be aware of?

  • Are there any specific electrical risks that I need to be aware of?

  • Are there any chemicals on site that I need to be aware of?

  • Is there any energised equipment that I need to be aware of?

  • Is noise an issue on site?

  • Is lighting an issue on site?

  • Are there any biological hazards on site? (Like waste products, effluent, or similar)

  • Is radiation from the sun an issue?

  • Is working in the heat or cold an issue?

  • Is fatigue, stress or violence an issue on site?

The task

  • Have I got permits/authorisations in place for entering confined spaces or working at heights?

  • Do I have the PPE I need to do my job safely?

  • Am I trained, competent and/or licensed to do this task?

  • Have I parked my vehicle appropriately?

  • Do I have the right tools and equipment for the task?

  • Am I physically and mentally fit to undertake the task?

Emergencies

  • Can I get help in an emergency?

  • Does my Manager know where I am and can I be contacted whilst on site?

Escalation of issues

  • My Manager is aware of any safety concerns I have raised with this assessment.
