Operation related Check list

UNLASHING

  • 1. DONOT Carry lashing belts above bumper <br> level near/in between vehicles<br>2. Clear all lashing belts away from driving route<br>3. Ensure lashings do not fall down to next deck

  • On cars stowed on slope way "Head down" – During Unlashing, Leave at least one rear lashing on slope way connected to the vehicle

  • Conduct "Trial run" with drivers to identify driving route from vessel to yard

BREAK OUT from stow - Onboard / ashore

  • 1. Check Port mark and do a round check to identify visible damages if any

  • 2. Confirm lashings are clear (onboard)

  • 3. Open door using door handle & Pull seat back and arrange seat cover before entering cargo

  • 4. Check no. of keys and show it to Breakout Signalman (onboard)

  • 5. Breakout Signalman (onboard) shall stand A) Close to obstruction side & Lesser than 1 car length to guide driver. B) Keep eye to eye contact and use signaling equipment<br>

  • 6. Breakout from stow in yard shall be guided yard signalman, Keep eye to eye contact and use signaling equipment<br>

  • 7. Driver shall wait for Signal man to signal him/her to Break out from stow<br> “NEVER MOVE VEHICLE FROM STOW WITHOUT SUPERVISION”

  • 8. Arrange 2 or more Signalmen when breaking out A) Long cargoes (more than 9m long) B) Vehicles from Tight stow condition

  • 9. During breakout from stow - DO NOT turn steering wheel more than 10 deg away from adjacent vehicle / obstruction

TEMPORARY STOW (if applicable)

  • 1. Identify clear areas for temporary stowage of cars & maintain at least 1meter clear distance between vehicles/obstruction from all sides

  • 2. After parking at Temporary stow - A) Ensure Hand brake "ON" B) Gear "N" or "P" C) Engine "OFF"

DRIVING onboard/ashore

Safe Distance

  • 1. On flat surface keep at least 10m distance from cargo ahead

  • 2. On Slope ways, 1 car at a time

  • 3. At shore ramp & Jump Slope ways, keep at least 20m between cars

  • 4. When stopped in convoy, keep at least 5m distance between cars, Keep gear "N" and Hand brake "ON"

  • 5. While driving in yard, keep at least 20m between vehicles

Safe Speed

  • 1. On flat surface & on slope ways, Keep speed less than 20km/hr

  • 2. While turning to enter / Leaving slope ways - Keep speed less than 10km/hr

  • 3. Low spoiler car (if applicable) shall approach / Leave slope way at speed of less than 5km/hr

  • 4. While driving in yard, keep speed lesser than Port / Terminal regulation

  • 5. When approaching parking area - Reduce speed to less than 10km/hr

YARD Operation

  • 1. Ferry / Taxi car shall Lead the convoy to the cargo storage area

  • 2. Traffic warden to guide traffic at junctions

  • 3. Signalmen arranged to guide drivers at parking area

  • 4. After parking vehicle in yard - Driver shall A) Put gear to "1" or "P" B) Hand brake "ON" C) Close ALL Windows & side mirrors D) Switch "OFF" engine E) Release foot brake F) Open door with EXTRA caution G) Arrange seat cover & Close door using door handle ONLY

Stowing operation onboard

  • 1. Arrange experienced drivers & Signalmen (Leadman) for stowing operation

  • 2. DONOT Reverse vehicles ONBOARD without Signalman

  • 3. Arrange 2 or more Signalmen when stowing vehicles close to obstruction & when stowing Long cargoes (more than 9m long)

  • 4. When stowing onboard - Follow minimum clearances as per MOL SOP as per below: <br>CARS - Bumper to Bumper - over 30 cm , Side to Side - over 10cm // In case of wheel Lashing Side to Side -over 20cm Driver side Door to obstruction - over 40cm<br>Around fire hydrant, Ladder access & Key car - over 50cm<br>BUS, TRUCKS, EXCAVATOR & TRACK MACHINERY - Bumper to Bumper - over 50 cm, Side to Side - over 30cm

  • 4. After stowing cargo onboard - Driver shall A) Put gear to "1" or "P" B) Hand brake "ON" C) Close ALL Windows & side mirrors D) Switch "OFF" engine E) Release foot brake F) Show keys to Signalman G) Open door with EXTRA caution H) Arrange seat cover & Close door using door handle ONLY

H/H Related including Towable cargoes

  • OPERATIONS INCLUDE H & H OR TOWING CARGO

  • TYPE OF OPERATION

  • Check and confirm clear height along driving route inside vessel from ramp entrance to High cargo stowage area onboard

  • To prevent nose hit / Roof hit - Arrange additional signalman to check under carriage & overhead clearance and enable safe loading and/or discharging of Long / High cargoes

  • When handling tracked units onboard - Arrange sufficient rubber mats / hawsers to prevent damage to ship's deck

  • Arrange signal man to assist Forklift / Tug master / Tow truck driver when handling packages onboard / yard.

  • Statics placed on trailers / MAFIs with sufficient dunnage and lashed as per MOL standards for safe handling by forklift. Forklift arms covered with protectors & vertical resting area protected with cushioning / rubber mats used to prevent scratch damages to statics when handled

  • FORKLIFT driver shall check stability of static cargo before moving. Based on static cargo weight and dimension use correct gear and equipment suitable for handling Static cargoes

  • Always USE Double/Triple hawsers (Non-Slip paint decks) and Single hawser (Fish bone or Bima Grip type) on the rampways for loading and discharging of TRACKED units. NEVER Wrap TRACKED units with mooring ropes

  • On board excavator with arm/bucket stowed with enough padding and as per MOL excavator guidelines on board

  • At Yard - 1) Excavator with arm/bucket placed as per recommended procedure - 90 degrees vertical to the yard surface . Links and teeth protected from wharf area by dunnage & rags . 2) Wheel loader, Dozer, Motor graders with blade / bucket shall be rested on dunnage / rubber mats protected by rags

  • After Loading / Discharging H / H cargo where applicable - switch OFF Master Switch and/or isolate negative terminal of battery

  • TYPE OF H & H HANDLED

  • Always USE Triple hawsers ( Non-Skid Bar and Bima Grip Ramp type - Only Single Hawser ) on the stern ramps for loading and discharging of TRACKED units , NEVER Wrap TRACKED units with mooring ropes

  • Statics placed on trailers / MAFIS lashed as per MOL standards and sufficient dunnage placed for safe handling by forklift Forklift arms covered with protectors & vertical resting area protected with cushioning / rubber mats used to prevent scratch damages to statics handled.   • TYPE OF OPERATION

  • 1) Before Loading - Stowage location of all units and static packages are identified in yard and physically checked. 2) After Loading - Tally checks are done for both units and static packages loaded onboard and cross check with yard stowage plan to confirm all units are loaded as planned.

  • 1)Before discharging - To prevent short landing / Overlanding - Location of all units and statics onboard to be discharged are physically checked and identified. 2) After discharging - Tally check done in yard for both units and static packages discharged from a particular vessel. Result is cross checked with tally done on board.

  • 1) Before Loading - Stowage location of all units and static packages are identified in yard and physically checked. 2) After Loading - Tally checks are done for both units and static packages loaded onboard and cross check with yard stowage plan to confirm all units are loaded as planned.
