Job Folder - a copy of the following must be in the job folder on site

  • Asbestos removal control plan and safe work method statement

Site Control – the following must be observed

  • Site Supervisor present on the site

  • Site induction has been completed and all workers and sub contractors have been signed into the site

  • Tool Box Talk - Hazards of the site have been identified and suitable controls have been assigned

  • Clearly defined zones - dirty zone, dirty decontamination zone, clean decontamination zone, clean zone

  • Site has barrier tape in place and signage to warn of asbestos removal works in progress

  • Roads, parking, pedestrian issues have been identified and controlled

  • Neighbouring properties and businesses have been notified of the asbestos removal works

General Site Observations

  • PPE is being worn by all workers on the site including sub contractors

  • Minimum PPE requirements include; mask rated for use with asbestos removal, disposable coverall and pull on style steel capped leather safety boots

  • Correct manual handling procedures are being used

  • Team lifting, bending at the knees, mechanical aid where appropriate

  • Walkways, stairs and platforms adequate / suitable

  • Are all adequate width, free from obstruction and in good repair

  • Ladders are in good working order and being used correctly

  • Work areas are clear, tidy & obstruction free

  • Adequate lighting

  • Adequate ventilation

  • Adequate waste disposal

  • All materials / consumables are available close to area of use and easily accessible

  • Openings and protrusions are protected

  • All electrical items have been tested & tagged

  • Heritage and protected areas have been identified and controlled

Asbestos Removal Works

  • All workers on the site have the required competency for the type of asbestos being removed

  • Remove Friable / Non Friable / Supervisor

  • All workers on the site can produce a general induction white card

  • Workers are removing the asbestos safely and as trained to do so

  • All work is following Scope of Works, Asbestos Control Plan and SWMS

  • Respiratory protection has been prescribed for the site and all workers are compliant

High Risk Work Observations

  • Structural safety requirements have been identified and controlled

  • Services have been disconnected or isolated (Electrical / Water / Gas)

  • Confined space work is only being carried out by trained and ticketed workers

  • Heavy machinery is only being used by people trained and licensed to do so

  • Workers performing vibrating works have been rested and rotated

  • Workers performing hot work have been rested and hydrated regularly (working in encapsulation / roofs)

  • Noise levels controlled and hearing PPE is being worn for high noise operations (grinding & jack hammering)

Working at heights

  • All heights equipment is tested & tagged

  • Fall arrest systems have been installed by a competent person

  • Workers involved in the work at height are trained and competent

Hazardous Substances

  • Hazardous Substances are stored together

  • Flammables are signed

  • MSDS & risk assessment are available for all

Tools and Machinery

  • Guards in place

  • Leads are in good order

  • Correct tools available for the task being performed

  • Maintained and operational

Fire and Emergency

  • Emergency plan in the SWMS has been completed and communicated

  • Flammable substances are stored separately away from ignition sources

  • First aid kit is available and stocked

  • Fire extinguisher is available on site

  • First aider is on site

Hygiene and Amenities

  • Access to clean water for drinking and decontamination

  • Access to amenities

Vehicle Movement – all company vehicles on the site

  • Driver is licensed

  • Vehicles are clean, serviced and fully operational

  • Keys are removed when not in use

Waste disposal

  • Contaminated waste is separated, wrapped and clearly marked

  • Transport vehicle is EPA registered

  • Non contaminated waste is recycled where possible

  • Waste areas are clearly defined
