HSE Management

  • CPP - Construction Phase Management Plan available, signed/dated/revised as necessary. Plan appropriate to contract including traffic management issues?

  • Risk Assessments / Method statements - Are risk assessments / Method statements available and to an acceptable standard? Have subcontractors RA / MS & COSCHH assessments been appraised?

Rope access system used for short duration roof work? When used for access, do ladders extend beyond the platform the the requisite distance? Ladder inspection log completed and up to date?

  • Access equipment - Are only class 1 or EN 131 equipment used on site? Has equipment been inspected and tagged? Non conducting materials used for electrical work?

  • Mobile Towers - Have mobile towers been erected by trained competent people and to an appropriate standard in line with manufacturers guidance?

  • Mobile Elevated Work Platforms - Are MEWPs being used in a safe manner by trained and competent operators?

Housekeeping and PPE

  • Vehicles - Are vehicles parked in a safe manner ensuring roads are clear for the movement of public traffic and emergency services?

  • Vehicles - Are company vehicles in a roadworthy condition and used in an appropriate manner? Are dangerous good s stored correctly?

  • Housekeeping - Pedestrian routes kept clear? Are dangerous materials physically segregated and fenced off? (broken glass, timbers with protruding nails etc.). Are arrangements in place for the regular removal of materials from properties each day?

  • Housekeeping - Are the use of floor protection coverings managed appropriately?

  • Skips - Are skips managed appropriately with permits available where necessary?

  • Personal Protective Equipment - Is suitable PPE provided and worn appropriate to the site conditions or the task being carried out?

Plant & Equipment

  • Plant & Equipment - Is all plant and equipment being used on site in good order with relevant test (Including PAT test where appropriate) and inspection certificates?

  • HAVS & Noise - Has the equipment / process been suitably assessed for noise / HAVS?

  • Plant & Equipment - Is all potentially dangerous plant and equipment kept secure at all times and not left unattended?

  • Electricity - Are electrical circuits suitably isolated prior to works commencing?

  • Electricity - Are temporary electrical supplies being managed? (battery or 110v or operated equipment used) Where 230v must be used, is suitable RCD protection provided? (230v must only be used with H&S permission)

General Safety

  • Excavations - Are excavations suitably shored / guarded?

  • Demolition - Is demolition activity suitably managed and carried out in a safe manner by competent persons? (Specific risk assessment)

  • Lifting Operations - Are lifting activities on site planned and are all certificates of training and thorough examination available? If any craneage is to be used, is there an appointed person and a specific lifting plan?

  • Manual Handling - Have manual handling issues been assessed and safe lifting techniques employed?

  • Permits to work - Are appropriate permits in place when needed? i.e. Hot works etc.

Environmental Issues

  • Waste licences - Are waste licences and duty of care notes correctly completed and held in file?

  • Fuel storage - Where fuel is stored, are bunds in operational condition with spill kits available in strategic locations?

  • Static plant - Are there drip trays under static plants?

  • Environmental impacts - Has consideration been given to the possible impacts to air, water and waste pollution?

Direct Labour Company Standards

  • Uniform - Are the trades wearing the correct uniform and is it clean and smart as reasonable as possible for works being carried out? PHOTO TO BE TAKEN

  • Works completed to date - Are the works that have been completed to date to a high standard and satisfactory for the repair being carried out?

  • Works brief - Were the trades given a full brief of works including the use of photos by the contracts manager before the start of works?

  • Materials - Were materials supplied to the trades before works started or have they had to source the materials themselves?

  • ID Badges - Were the trades wearing ID badges on the first visit to site and when they introduced themselves to the customer?
