General Liability Audit

Pre-Planning

  • Was a pre-existing damage inspection performed?

  • Has Foreman been provided a list of emergency contact numbers as well as a facilities contact for day to day needs?

  • Has the underside of roof decking been evaluated for bad decking or conduit/utilities which could present problems during roofing operations?

  • Has DAILY tie-in procedures been discussed and agreed upon as a part of the site specific safety plan?

  • Are powerlines at least 10' away from locations of roofing operations, ladders, scaffolds, cranes, or other equipment?

Protection of Existing Persons & Property

  • Is a plan in place to protect valuable and sensitive contents below roofing operations?

  • Are driveways, sidewalks, landscaping, etc. adequately protected from roofing operations including heavy equipment?

  • Is protection in place for carpeting/flooring (booties worn or protective materials laid)?

  • Are adequate safeguards in place to ensure roofing product / chemicals / debris created during tear off and installation do not become an airborne hazard?

  • Is material stored 6' minimum away from the roof edge and secured adequately?

  • Is adequate signage and barricading in place to warn public and patrons to stay out of construction areas? This includes dumpsters, storage areas on ground and rooftop, interior access points onto roof construction site, etc.

  • Have air intakes been shut off or covered as needed to prevent roofing chemicals from entering the building?

  • Is traffic on new laid roofs minimized and walkpads provided on areas of heavy traffic or where material is being carted across new roofs?

  • Are appropriate security measures in place (i.e. Ladders removed if site not secured, tools locked up as required, keys for heavy equipment removed or hidden, etc.)

Water Infiltration Prevention

  • Is weather monitored frequently throughout the day?

  • Is material available to quickly cover open roof in the event a freak storm?

  • Are temporary equipment (water diverters) and material to protect interior in case of leak readily available?

  • Are drains in scheduled work area plugged to prevent roofing material from entering during roofing operations, and completed by the end of the work day? Drains should never be left with just a small hole cut thru the membrane.

  • Are roof drains, scuppers, gutters checked for evidence of blockage?

  • Are daily tie-ins conducted AND INSPECTED by foreman at the end of each shift?

Other Contractors

  • Take note of operations being performed by other contractors onsite. Are they performing operations or working in a manner which could cause damage to newly installed roofs?

  • Photograph all damage or concerns regarding other contractor operations.
