Responding to Goverment Inspections

  • Assign someone to make contact with EHS. Do not stop until we have contacted EHS. Who is the person assigned to making contact?

  • Location of Inspection: 6551 or 6800 Grant Avenue location?

  • What day and time was the inspection conducted?

  • Please enter the names who are escorting the inspector throughout the facility.

  • Please ask for the inspectors credentials, review them.

  • Who is the inspector and what agency are they representing?

  • Please ask "Does this inspection involve any criminal violations"?

  • What are the alleged criminal violation. If no please type NA

  • Do not ask for a warrant.

  • Do not refuse entry.

  • Please issue the inspector Hard hat, Vest and ask them to wear them. they may choose to wear their own gear.

  • Place the Inspector into the Confernce room

  • Do not take any laptops or have computer access in the room with the inspector

  • Please have a phone for teleconference between EHS/Inspector

  • Did they give advance notice of the inspection?

  • What day is the upcoming inspection?

  • Is this an unnanounced inspection?

  • Assign a minimum of 2 team members to stay with the inspector. Please type who were assigned?

  • Please do not volunteer to correct any items (unless they are an immediate danger, such as an OSHA slip and fall risk).

  • Please answer all the inspectors question professionaly and respectfully but do not offer any information. Yes and No are the best answers if possible.

  • Please let the inspector speak without arguing with them. Seek clarification of anything not fully understood.

  • Please ask for a copy of the inspectors report.

  • What date can you expect to get the inspection report?

  • Please ask what the inspector"s next steps will be.

  • Try to limit access to the areas requested and the conference room.

  • Assign one person to just take note and photos. Whatever the inspector looks at, photographs or take samples please duplicate exactly what they have done.

  • Ask the inspector to give a debriefing regarding preliminary finding. Have the EHS team on the phone while this takes place.

  • At the end of the inspection, please escort the inspector to their vehicle and do not allow the inspector to EXPLORE our facility alone.

  • The safety coordinator will provide a detailed written report of the inspection.
