Setting Out / Traffic Control

  • Time TC Commenced.

Cold Milling of asphalt

  • Time milling commenced.

  • Check the proposed pattern for worn teeth (uneven surface), check the water usage (dust prevention)

  • Asphalt milling depth compliant with the relevant shift plan

  • Removal of milled asphalt, no damage to infrastructure as listed above.

  • Profiled area free from any defective pavement/base areas. Soft/unsuitable base options for rectification

  • Time milling completed

Bitumen emulsion tack coating

  • Tack coating material applied evenly with no pooling or overspraying

  • Tack coat fully broken, free of surface water, and intact

Placing of Asphalt

  • Time paving commenced:

  • Asphalt temperature delivered to paver immediately prior to placement

  • Visually confirm the shape of the new asphalt mat

  • Asphalt mat thickness conforms to the requirement

  • No unnecessary handwork or broadcasting over the fresh matt

Asphalt Joints

  • The longitudinal joint are straight and parallel to the centre line (Joints should be located away from the traffic wheel path), offset by 150mm between layers

  • Tranverse joints cut back where required, square and true, offset by 2m between layers

  • Tie in joints squared off

  • Time paving completed

Compaction

  • Temperature of asphalt at initial compaction:

  • Roller pattern followed and required compaction achieved

  • Transverse Joints satisfying density and shape requirements via combined longitudinal/transverse rolling

  • Longitudinal Joints satisfying density and shape requirements for either hot or cold procedure

Carriageway Surface Shape

  • Carriageway Compliant Surface Shape – crown requirements, ride quality, avoidance of trip hazards, tie ins to crossings

  • Homogeneous surface finish produced, defect free

Completion / Open to traffic

  • Final site check compliant no defects, damage, quality issues.

  • Quantity Agreement mix final tonnage

  • Asphalt Docket copies obtained

  • Temporary line marking and stick and stomps reinstated compliant with design and prework locations.

  • Surface Temperature of asphalt < 60 degrees

  • Ensure the site is safe for opening to live traffic

  • Time completed
