Rollers

  • Rollers are being cross-squared.

  • Pole attachments are close to striking rollers.

  • Nuts, bolts, and chains are secured to the drive and idler rollers. If fall protection is present, those nuts and bolts are properly secured.

  • Check the motor housing unit - this area is free from trash, tools, scrap or other debris.

  • Strain Relief on the controller box is intact. (No wires showing)

  • Electric cord and plug are in good shape and do not present a trip hazard.

  • Fall arrest pole is properly secured to the rollers.

  • Fall Arrest vest is present, in good condition and hung on the pole?

  • SRL (self retracting lifeline) is up to the top and is secured with a pull rope.

Vehicles (Do not inspect vehicles not in service)

  • Are inspection forms up to date? (Crane or Forklift)

  • Is the vehicle equipped with a fire extinguisher? (Forklift, Yard Dog, Taylor)

  • Is the fire extinguisher properly mounted and charged with a recent inspection? (within 30 days)

  • Are the vehicles safe to operate? (Horns, alarms, lights and seat belts shall be present and maintained)

Fire Prevention

  • Emergency exit lighting is operable.

  • Evacuation plan is displayed and safety board is up to date.

  • Extinguishers are in place and clearly marked for type of fire.

  • Extinguishers have been recently serviced. (Check 6 monthly punch mark on tabs.)

  • Extinguishers are clear of any obstructions.

  • Extinguishers are no more than 1200 mm max height & base not lower than 100 mm.

  • Indicator signs are 2.1 m above floor level.

  • Adequate direction notices are given for fire exits.

  • Exit doors can be easily opened from inside.

  • Exits are clear of obstructions.

Building Safety

  • Floor surfaces are even and uncluttered.

  • Entry and walkways are kept clear.

  • Intersections are kept clear of boxes, etc.

  • Stairs and risers are kept clear.

  • Liquid spills are removed quickly.

  • Railings are in good condition.

  • Footpaths are in good condition.

  • Welding curtains are in good repair with no rips, tears or punctures and are properly secured.

  • Loading areas are clean and tidy.

Work Benches

  • Workbenches are clear of rubbish.

  • Tools not in use are kept in place.

  • No damaged hand tools are in use.

  • No damaged power/air tools are in use.

  • Work height is correct for the type of work and the employees.

  • Airlines are in good condition and not leaking.

  • Airlines and power cables are not causing a trip hazard in the bay.

  • No sharp edges on work benches/tool cages.

Rubbish Removal

  • Trash bins are located at suitable points around department.

  • Trash is picked up workbenches, floors, and equipment are free from trash and debris.

  • Trash bins are emptied regularly.

  • Oily rags and combustible refuse in are placed in covered metal containers.

Storage Design and Use

  • Materials are stored in racks/bins wherever possible.

  • Storage areas are designed to minimize lifting problems.

  • Floors around racking are clear of rubbish.

  • The general condition of racks and pallets in the area are good.

  • Storage racking is marked with load limits.

  • Storage areas containing 4" x 6" boards are double stacked, (t-boards), upright, and contain steel chock blocks secured with lag bolts. (does not apply to arms or small seamer)

Machines

  • Machines in the area are kept clean.

  • The floors around the machines are kept clean.

  • Machine guarding is in good condition.

  • Starting/stopping devices are within easy reach of operator.

  • Nothing is stored in housing units or areas that may pose a hazard.

  • Employees are given adequate work space around the machinery/products.

  • LOTO procedures are posted at equipment.

  • Regulators are shut off when not in use?

  • Oxygen, and oxygen tools are kept separate from oil or tools that use oil at all times.

  • Colors are correct and appropriate? (Red for fuel Gas Green For Oxygen and Black for inert)

  • Soap and water is readily available for leak checking and leak checks have been performed?

Electrical Safety

  • Extension cords are free from damage.

  • Ground prongs are in place.

  • Conduit and receptacles are free of damage and secured in place.

  • Floor is free from daisy chaining (chaining extension cords together).

  • Extension cords are loose and not secured to permanent structure (via zip-tie, etc.).

  • Extension cords do not present a trip hazard to employees.

Ladders

  • Ladders are industrial strength (not household-rated - check labels).

  • Ladders are in good condition - have rubber feet in place, not damaged/dented, etc. (If ladder is in disrepair, immediately get it tagged and remove from floor).

  • Ladders are being used according to instructions.

Employees

  • PPE is being worn by everyone; correctly.

  • Daily inspection sheets are all turned in and current.

  • Daily Meeting forms are turned in and the board is current.

  • Welding bay Inspection sheets are being filled out by each shift on a weekly basis.

  • Cork boards in individual cells are being updated.

  • Employees are cleaning their area as they go.
