Crane Safety

  • Does the candidate know how and when to report an injury or near-miss incident?

  • Can they find the nearest fire extinguisher? What is the abbreviation for using it? (PASS)

  • Does the candidate know how to correctly use the eye wash station? Can they demonstrate?

  • Does the candidate know evacuation procedures? Nearest exit? (Fire or shelter in place) Where is the muster area?

  • Do they know where the nearest first aid supplies are located? AED?

  • Has the candidate checked their gas lines to ensure that a flashback arrestor(s) is on the gas lines in their station? Can they shut off the lines?

  • LOTO: Can they describe the difference between an "affected" and "authorized" person is?

  • Can they describe the "Zero Tolerance" rule as it pertains to suspended objects? (Not over or under objects, includes cranes w/ loads, forklifts and booms w/ lifts)

Fall Protection/Aerial Lift

  • Can the candidate name three pieces needed to complete a proper fall protection system? (Harness, Lanyard, Anchor point)

  • Does the candidate know the weight limitations of the harnesses here at Sabre? Can they find the information? (ANSI 310 lbs, OSHA 420 lbs)

  • Can they describe the possible hazards when using an aerial lift? (Overhead obstructions, tip over, power lines, falling objects,falling out of lift)

  • Do they know when to appropriately engage the e-stop? (daily check, emergency)

  • Do they know the what the correct position of the basket during travel? (Basket low as possible while maintaining view. Gate secured, honk when entering, exiting building or around corners, slow speed)
