NNPP Site Specific Details

  • The purpose of this document is to provide information on the risks associated with the site and the construction activity that is due to take place there. By completing this document in the appropriate manner compliance with the requirements under the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 (CDM) will be met. This plan is for use in projects of simple nature and limited timescale where more than one contractor is on site. This plan is not for Notifiable Projects (work lasting longer than 30 days with more than 20 workers working at the same time, or involving 500 person days of work).

    The Regional Building Surveyor (RBS) will initially prepare this plan, where it is appropriate, for works under the revised CDM Regulations. The Principal Contractor develops this document into the Construction Phase Plan, which must be retained on site at ALL times. The Principal Contractor is required to carry out risk assessments of the work and prepare additional documentation as appropriate. Additional documentation may also be required from other contractors involved in the project.

Role of the Principal Contractor

  • The Principal Contractor is required to plan, manage and coordinate the construction work. This document is the appointment of the Principal Contractor in writing in line with the CDM Regulations.

  • The Principal Contractor will be required to draw up a plan explaining how health and safety risks will be managed. This should be proportionate to the scale of the work and associated risks and you should not allow work to start on site until there is a plan.

  • By accepting the Principal Contractor role it is deemed the contractors on site employees are adequately resourced and competent to undertake the role on site.

  • It is the Principal Contractor's role to inspect and verify all contractors RAMS are suitable for the works.

Health and Safety Considerations and how they are to be managed

  • Are electrical works required?

  • All electrical works out to be undertaken by suitably qualified electricians ensuring all necessary circuits isolated before works commence. All HRG electricians are vetted for H and S compliance by CSS and are deemed competent to undertake this work.

  • Are works at height required?

  • Working at Height is to be adequately managed by all parties and it is the Principal Contractors role to ensure safe working at height practices are maintained in line with the Home Retail Group Health and Safety Requirements for Maintenance Contractors document.

  • Has an asbestos survey been undertaken at this site?

  • There is no asbestos in the vicinity of the works. It is the contractor's responsibility to check the asbestos summary on site prior to works to this specific element. If there are any concerns please stop work and contact the Shield On Site Services Asbestos Helpdesk on 01484 545533 for clarification on the store asbestos audit or the Principal Designer for further actions.

  • This store has not been surveyed as the build date of the property is post 2000. works should continue however if anything suspicious is encountered please stop work and contact the Principal Designer for further advice.

  • Are Hot Works required?

  • The HRG hot works policy is to be adhered to as detailed in the Home Retail Group Health and Safety Requirements for Maintenance Contractors document. Details and permits can be found in the visitors signing in book within the store.

  • Are Sprinkler Impairment works required?

  • As Sprinkler works are required which will isolate the sprinkler coverage the Principal Designer is to be contacted to ensure a sprinkler impairment notice is issued to the HRG insurers.

  • Are the store welfare facilities to be used for these works?

  • On site welfare facilities may be used by site operatives. They are to be left in a clean end tidy condition
