Site Set-up and Control

  • Has the contractor completed a Daily Pre-start and minuted this?

  • Is a Task Analysis (or similar) in place for the activity being undertaken, have all workers signed into this, has it been reviewed recently and is it available on site?

  • Has the Task Analysis been reviewed and approved by both the SBR Rep and SBLT Rep?

  • Does the contractor have an Antarctica New Zealand PTW issued for all hot works, work at heights or any works relating to Antarctica New Zealand assets/engineering systems?

Emergency Equipment

  • Have all reasonable emergency scenarios been identified, emergency plans in place and workers aware of these?

  • Are fire extinguishers, first aid kits and spill kits available in the immediate work area?

  • Is an RT available on site and are workers using site radio comms processes?

Personal Safety Equipment

  • Are all workers wearing the appropriate cold weather clothing including gloves?

  • Are all workers observing the minimum PPE requirements including, high-visibility vests, safety footwear, hard hats and safety glasses?

  • Are all workers wearing the relevant task-specific PPE including hearing protection, respirators/dust masks, boot chains, sunscreen etc?

Ground Hazards

  • Are all edges/openings clearly delineated/marked?

  • Has delineation been set up around fixed work areas?

  • Are there clear access/egress routes and are sites clear from trip hazards?

Vehicle/Plant Operation

  • Are all vehicles/plant being operated by licensed personnel, and have they completed the Antarctica New Zealand vehicle induction and been signed off (where applicable)?

  • Has the operator completed a pre-start inspection for the vehicle/plant including completion of the log-book where applicable?

  • Has all plant/machinery been set up and secured on a level footing?

  • Are all engineering controls in place i.e. guards, shrouds, safety chains etc

  • Are all loads properly secured?

Lifting Activities

  • Is lifting equipment including tackle, lifting points and accessories fit for purpose and appropriately rated for the task?

  • Is all lifting equipment certified/tagged i.e. strops, chains etc?

  • Are lifts being executed to ensure no work is being undertaken under a suspended load?

Work at Heights

  • Have all ground penetrations been covered, covers pinned and clearly marked when not being worked on?

  • Are all fall hazards controlled, including use of appropriate edge protection or fall arrest/restraint?

  • Have anchors and rope lines been designed/installed by a competent person?

  • Is work at heights being completed by trained and certified workers only?

  • Is all heights safety equipment checked, tagged and certified?

  • Is an appropriate rescue plan in place?

General

  • Are all tools in use in good condition and appropriate for the job?

  • Are good manual handling practices being observed?

  • Is all electrical equipment in good condition and is it currently tagged?

  • Are all leads clear of water and are RCDs in use?

  • Are all hazardous substances being handled according to the SDS and is these available on site?

  • Have all loose materials been secured from the wind?
