Shop Inspection

General

  • Emergency Action Plan and OSHA postings posted?

  • Good housekeeping maintained?

  • Is first aid equipment stocked orderly, and clearly visible AED available?

  • Are aisles, exits, and walkway kept clear?

  • Are emergency exits clear of debris and trash?

  • Is there adequate permanent lighting to complete all tasks in the shop safely?

  • SDS available? Are employees trained in SDS locations?

  • Are all chemical and chemical waste containers clearly labeled with their contents and primary hazard(s)?

PPE

  • PPE expectations posted upon entry into shop?

  • Are employees wearing PPE? Is PPE in safe condition?

Fire Extinguishers

  • Fire extinguishers inspected annually and monthly?

  • Area around fire extinguishers, pull alarms emergency showers, and electrical panels kept clear?

Machine Operation

  • Are machine guards in place on all grinders, saws, etc., and in good condition?

  • Are machine operators trained on the use of equipment? Is the operator dressed safely for the job (i.e., no loose-fitting clothing or jewelry)?

Electrical

  • Written LOTO procedures posted on equipment?

  • Are all electrical equipment and cables in good condition?

  • Are electrical panels kept clear? Minimum 36" in front of panels. Are extension cords in good condition appropriately rated and used properly?

Overhead Cranes and Forklifts

  • Shop overhead cranes inspected are they in safe condition? Controls clearly marked?

  • Forklift operator trained? Forklift in safe condition? Seatbelt worn?

Hands and Power Tools

  • Hand/ Power tools in safe condition? Workstations safe?

  • Are all shop tools and equipment (powered and unpowered) maintained in a good state of repair (sharp. clean, functional)?

  • Shop table carts pushed rather than pulled?

  • Are all gas cylinders always secured and are those not in use with caps in place and appropriately segregated?

Hot Work

  • Safe welding operations? Welding screens being used by shop employees?

  • Adequate ventilation throughout the shop, during hot work operations?

  • Are flammables in approved flammable cabinets?
