SJE Safety Inspection

FLOORS AND WALL OPENINGS

  • Is the Yellow Brick Road clear of pallets, carts and trash bins

  • Identify any trip hazards that may be present

  • Are all wall openings with a drop of more than 4 feet guarded with standard railing?

  • Are stairways adeguately illuminated

HOUSEKEEPING

  • Is the work area clean?

  • Are the floors clean and dry?

  • Are aisles and passageways kept clear of obstructions and in good repair?

  • Are permanent aisles and passageways clearly marked?

  • Are there any oily or slippery conditions?

MEANS OF EXIT

  • Are any exit paths obstructed. (Check outside too)

  • Are exits clearly marked?

  • Are there enough exits to allow prompt escape?

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

  • Are employees wearing safety glasses where needed?

  • Are safety side shields being used on glasses temporarily?

  • Are safety harnesses being used on open lift fork lifts?

EMPLOYEE FACILITIES

  • Are washing facilities clean and sanitary?

  • Are restrooms being restocked regularly?

  • Are restrooms being cleaned regularly?

  • Are dining facilities cleaned regularly?

MEDICAL AND FIRST AID

  • Are approved first-aid supplies readily available and access maintained?

  • Are supplies replenished as they are used?

  • Have first-aid supplies been replenished?

FIRE PROTECTION

  • Are fire extinguishers properly mounted and accessible and paths not blocked?

  • Are all extinguishers fully chareged and operable?

  • Are special-purpose extinguishers clearly marked?

  • Are flammable liquids stored properly?

  • Are fire extinguishers inspected and up to date?

MACHINE GUARDING

  • Are all machines guarded to protect operators from hazards?

  • Are spinning parts guarded?

  • Are point-of-operation guards in place on all operating equipment?

ELECTRICAL

  • Are junction boxes closed?

  • Are extension cords being used as permanent wiring? (They are not supposed to be used that way)

  • Is there sufficient lighting in the work areas?

  • Is the access to electrical panels maintained? (30 inches)

ERGONOMICS

  • Are chairs adjustable to the needs of the operators and the tasks?

  • Are the proper mats at the work stations where workers must stand to perform work?

  • Does each assembler rotate in accordance with Ergo guidelines?

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Are pallets sticking out past 4" on racking

  • Is there adequate ventilation?

  • Is the emergency telephone procedure posted at each telephone?

  • Are air nozzles for compressed air compliant with relief holes in them

  • Are employee outside walkways and entrances clear from debris and maintained?

  • Are daily forklift inspections filled out

  • Are there any burnt out or missing light bulbs (below green unistrut)

  • Are there any damaged cord carts

  • Are wheeled carts being used as permanent tables

  • Are vent boxes functional at each solder stations, has the filter been changed out

  • Is ventilation functional at welders, wave, selective solder, uv oven, has filter been changed out.

  • Inspect hand soldering cords for exposed wires

  • Is the Flux and coatings stored or disposed of properly. (in use is ok) Should be in fire cabinet

  • Are daily mercury levels recorded in weld room

  • Is monthly and weekly weld room cleaning current

  • Is the ventilation system functional in the weld room (check the barrels in the corner for suction)
