Corner working and ladder access

  • Information on the corner working and ladder access, including what to be aware of and the assessment.
    Article Breakdown
    1 Overview
    2 Assessment

1. Overview

  • Details of the requirements for when you have to access an existing dish position, for upgrades and service jobs. This isn't for installations, where no other means of access is available.

This is a short term solution where either an extension or conservatory has been installed after the original dish fitting and should be properly assessed and escalated on all occasions. The Health and Safety Team are currently looking at a specific Microlite that will include corner working.

Some things to be aware of:
•On all occasions it's only to be used if the risk assessment allows it, and is in accordance with the normal ladder set up.
•It can only be used for re-visits where there's a system already in place; not for new installs.
•Protection of the ladder rung and wall is paramount - consider protecting both at all times.
•Before each job is carried out, using this procedure, it must be escalated to your H&S Advisor first. This is so we can keep a note of how many times this is happening.

On all occasions you should consider relocating the dish to an easier accessible position.

2. Assessment

  • Complete a normal ladder access risk assessment in accordance with current procedures:
•Existing conditions of the customer’s property
•Where the dish is located i.e. brick wall and mortar line

If there's any existing damage don't access. Use a piece of rag to protect the ladder rung and the wall.
