Confirmation of scaffold

Roofing

  • Have you confirmed the need for a roofing repair?<br><br>Example: By checking the loft space for leaking water pipes/ tanks and tracing the leak from the underside of the roof to the point of ingress.

  • Have you used a metre to check if the wall/ ceiling is wet?<br><br>If work has been done previously we need to verify this isn't just the resulting stain

  • If the work is short duration can a different form of access be used?<br><br>Example: If the work does not consist of heavy materials and can be carried out by one operative, such as; a slipped tile or gutter clearance, can a tower, cherry picker or even a Skyvac be used?

Glazing

  • Have you checked to ensure the window repair cannot be carried out from inside the property?<br><br>Example: Some window frames including Sash windows and skylights can now be removed and installed from inside the property. Did you check with the glazier first?

Purpose

  • What will the scaffold be used for? What task/ tasks will be carried out from the scaffold? Example: The scaffold company may need to hold an ancillary asbestos licence.

Placement of scaffold

  • Are there any overhead power cables?

  • Is there a gas flue and if so will the scaffold affect it?

  • Will the scaffold be to close to a trench or other excavation?

  • What is the suspected loading of scaffold?

  • What are the ground conditions and what base will be required

  • Does the area around the scaffold have varying levels or is the ground sloped?

  • What elevations will the scaffold cover?

  • What is the approximate height of the scaffold?

  • What is the approximate length of the scaffold?

  • Working Lift height?

  • Number of lifts?

  • Is a hoist required?

  • Is a Gin wheel required?

  • Is a rubble chute required?

  • Is access area protection fan required?

  • If roof work does the edge protection need to be extended up the roof pitch or around the roof edge if it is a flat roof?

  • Is there a clear vehicle access route for the scaffold to be unloaded?
