  • Notes

  • Verify that surveyor's layout is in agreement with contract drawings and specifications.

  • Verify that the underground contractor has a full understanding of the method used for survey layout

  • Verify that the actual placement of the new utilities is providing drainage as the drawings indicate

  • Is the contractor verifying the cleanliness of the interior of the pipe?

  • Is the bedding/pipe placement taking place on dry surface free from stones

  • Verify that the trueness of the pipe is being monitored, and backfilling operations are being done in such a manner to prevent movement during backfill operations

  • Verify that the pipe is being placed with the male end of the pipe pointing downstream

  • Utility locations have been determined and marked?

  • One Call Reference No.

  • Competent person Identified and on-site

  • Proper benching and sloping techniques being used

  • Dewatering of trench is being accomplished

  • Verify that Trench width below the pipe top of 24" + O.D. of pipe, for pipes< 24" of diameter, for those areas where the pipe O..D. >24", the width of the trench may be<=36" below the pipe top.

  • Is there proper egress into and out of trench, and verify that benching/shoring is taking place when the trench is deeper than 4 ft.

  • Unsuitable material that cannot be used for backfill is either hauled away, or placed at an approved disposal area on the project.

  • Verify that no stones > 1" is in the bottom of trench.

  • Is there any unstable material encountered in the bottom of the trench, if so remove material as directed and replace with select granular, If this is caused through no fault of the Contractor, the Government will pay for removal/replacement

  • Location & Details

  • Verify the pipe bedding thickness will be select granular material at a depth of 1/4 of O.D. of pipe + 4", and 1/2 O.D. on the haunches of the pipe at 90% compaction

  • Verify that backfilling of areas that are sidewalks, or seeded areas may be placed in lifts of 8" and after the first 12" above the pipe, and compacted to 90% for cohesive soils and 95% for non cohesive, at a frequency of 5,000 sq ft for those areas compacted by other than hand operated equipment, otherwise compaction requirements of one per 2,500 sq.ft. In areas supporting airfield pavements the requirement is 6" lifts and 100% every 2,500 sq. ft. regardless of equipment being used.

  • Insure the removal of unsuitable material in backfill material (topsoil, rocks, other foreign material)

  • Verify bedding for underneath drainage structures will have a minimum of 12" of select granular for bedding.

  • Check backfill material assuring placement in uniform layers

  • Has the pipe that was delivered inspected, and if so, is the pipe acceptable to be used?, if the answer is "No" please explain.

  • Are there any changes that need to be added to the red line drawings, if so, please explain
