ACTIVITIES - A) STRUCTURAL STEELWORK FABRICATION

  • Ensure the shop drawings have been checked by the design engineer prior to fabrication

  • As directed by the job manager or the design engineer, visit the steel fabricator’s workshop at an early stage to ensure the standard of workmanship is acceptable

  • Ensure testing of the different type of welds is carried out where required in the specification

ACTIVITIES - B) STRUCTURAL STEELWORK ERECTION

  • Check that temporary and permanent bracing is being installed to maintain the framework stable

  • Check all structural steel members are correct as per structural steel schedules and tables

  • Check that the correct type of bolts and nuts are being installed

  • Check tightening procedures are correct as per specification. Load indicating washers are best

  • Ensure that the grouting under base plates is carried out as soon as possible

  • Report on any damage to surface paint work requiring touch up

  • It is the contractor’s responsibility to survey the steelwork for plan position and verticality as specified

  • Check that site welding is being carried out competently and tested as specified

  • Check that galvanized bolts and washers are used in exposed situations

  • It is the builder’s and contractor’s responsibilities that the chemical anchors are correctly installed
