TAKE 5 - STEPS TO REMOVE YOURSELF FROM THE LINE OF FIRE

1. THINK THROUGH THE TASK

  • Do you have a current SWMS, SWI or JHA for the task?

  • Have you read and understood the SWMS, SWI or JHA?

  • Have you assessed how the task might change due to new variables?

  • Do you have correct PPE for the task?

  • Have you assessed what elevated risks the task might involve?

  • If you answered "NO" to any question, DO NOT PROCEED. Contact your supervisor and/or commence risk assessement

2. SPOT THE HAZARD

  • Am i or others at risk from other vehciles / equipment or the operation of this vehicle / equipment?

  • Does this task involve manual handling?

  • Could i be stuck by / caught between objects?

  • Does the task involve hazardous materials?

  • Will i be working at heights?

  • Will i be working in a confined space?

  • Are they are trip or floor surface hazards?

  • Are there other hazards involved in what i am about to do?

3. ASSESS THE RISK

  • What controls have i put into place?
