Basic PIT Components

  • Are all PIT gauges working properly and clearly labeled (fuel, oil, oil pressure, hydraulic pressure, Battery, etc.)?

  • Do all safety warning devices work (including horn and back up alarms)?

  • Lights - Head & tail lights, turn signals, and all warning lights work correctly?

  • Brakes - Does the parking brake work (able to stop PIT in an idle setting)?

  • Brakes - Do the service brakes work ok? If not, please explain (not soft or making noise when applied)

  • Does the accelerator pedal depress and return ok, does the PIT throttle control sound ok?

  • Are all hand controls levers labeled and working properly (i.e. - shifters, forward/reverse, 4WD, Gear selector, etc.)?

  • Does the steering turn properly, is the steering wheel (or control arm) in good condition?

  • Is the fuel cap, LPG connection, or charging connector, in good condition?

  • Is the battery hooked up ok, are the connections in good condition?

Forklifts

Forklift (Only Complete For Forklift Style PITs)

  • Are wire cables or hoses on the mast in good condition (free of fraying-kinking-denting)?

  • If the PIT uses chains to raise the mast, are they in good condition, greased and free of warping or kinking?

Aerial Lifts

Aerial Lifts - General (Complete For All Styles of Aerial Lifts)

  • Does the AL have an operators manual and a copy of the ANSI standard on the lift?

  • Ensure the AL has a capacity plate and that it is legible.

  • Ensure all warning and caution label/stickers are legible.

  • Ensure that the platform/boom control panel is in good condition with all switches and buttons are legible.

  • Ensure the ground control panel switches and buttons all work properly. Ensure all function controls return to the neutral position.

  • Conduct a walk around of the AL and ensure there are no leaks present. Ensure all hoses and wiring is in good condition.

  • Ensure the tires are in good condition.

  • Inspect the chassis, platform or boom, and structure of the AL is in good condition.

  • Inspect the AL chassis, arms, and platform or boom for cracked welds.

  • Raise, lower, move forward and backwards the AL to ensure it operates correctly.

  • Ensure all PPE such as fall protection, connection points, and guards are in good condition.

  • Ensure all fluids are at the correct levels.

  • When applicable, is the charging system in good condition (battery levels)?
