  • Are machine guards and covers present, undamaged, and properly positioned?

  • Are safety guards in place to prevent access to dangerous moving parts (e.g., blades, gears, belts)?

  • Are there interlocks or safety devices in place to prevent the machine from operating when guards are removed or doors are open?

  • Are protective barriers installed around the machine if necessary to prevent workers from coming into contact with dangerous areas?

  • Are nip points, pinch points, and shear points identified with warning labels or guards?

  • Are emergency stop mechanisms in place and functional for all machinery?

  • Are warning signs and labels clearly visible near hazardous machinery or equipment?

  • Are noise levels monitored to ensure they are within safe limits for employees?

  • Is loading and unloading carried out in a segregated area? E.g., Away from passing vehicles, pedestrians

  • Is there a designated safe area for drivers during loading and unloading procedures?

  • Are there documented safe systems of work in place? E.g., Loading and unloading, Coupling and uncoupling, Maintenance, Working at height on vehicles, Securing of loads

Forklifts

  • Is the forklifts free from visible damage, wear, or defects (e.g., cracks, tyre wear or rust)?

  • Is the attachments free from visible damage, wear, or defects?

  • Is pre use inspections being completed on all forklifts as per company's policy?

  • Have all forklift operators completed required forklift training and hold a valid certification?

  • Are all forklifts equipped with the required mirrors?

  • Are all forklifts fitted with the required audible warning signs, such as horns or alarms, to alert pedestrians and other workers of their movement?

  • Are forklift attachments stored correctly?

Operational Behaviours

  • Is the employee wearing the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for their tasks (e.g., gloves, helmets, hearing protection, etc.)?

  • Is the employee follow the established workplace safety rules and procedures?

  • Is the employee keeping their work area clean, tidy, and free from hazards (e.g., spills, clutter)?

  • Does forklift operators maintain a safe speed while driving, especially in tight spaces and around corners?

  • Does forklift operators use the horn or warning signal when approaching blind spots, intersections, or other workers?

  • Does forklift operators follow the designated traffic routes and avoid driving in pedestrian-only areas?

  • Are all forklift drivers wearing their seatbelts while operating the forklift?

  • Are operators following the Safe System of Work (SSOW) procedures for the task identified?

Inspection Certificates

  • Is there an in-date certificate of thorough examination for lifting equipment? E.g., Forklifts, Forklift attachments, MEWP?

  • Is racking regularly inspected and maintained? Are records available for this?

  • Is there an in-date certificate of thorough examination for pressure systems e.g. pressurised steam boiler, compressed air?

  • Is the PAT testing completed (Within the last year) and certified for portable appliances used on-site?

  • Is the fixed wire testing in-date? (Usually every 5 years or after a significant modification)

  • If an extraction system (LEV) is in place, has it undergone a thorough examination and test within the past 14 months? Is there an in-date inspection report available?

Health Surveillance

  • Are risk assessments conducted to identify the need for health surveillance for employees exposed to health risks (e.g., noise, chemicals, vibration)?

  • Is the scope of health surveillance clearly defined, covering the relevant risks and employee groups?

  • Are procedures in place to ensure the confidentiality of employees' health surveillance data, in line with data protection laws?

  • Skin Disorders (Dermatitis and Allergies): Are employees who may be exposed to irritants or allergens monitored for skin conditions, with appropriate assessments (e.g., dermatitis checks)?

Emergency Arrangements
