-
“You must follow the Health & Safety Must Do’s detailed below. Failure to comply could result in you being disciplined and your engagement terminated. If you injure another person or yourself because of your negligence, you could face criminal prosecution as well as disciplinary proceedings being taken against you”.
Here are the requirements on safety precaution:
• You must only use your pit–lifter to open and close pits. You must not use screwdrivers, pliers or hammers, these will cause the pit lid to slip and catch your fingers.
• ALWAYS use the correct type of box key for the box.
• ALWAYS utilise the spark resistant roller bar when rolling box lid off.
• When opening a pit, you must be wearing your safety gloves at all times.
• Do not allow any of the ‘pit water’ to touch your skin.
• Test and monitor for gas - If your GDU needs calibrating inform your Site Supervisor immediately.
• Practice manual handling when manoeuvring the pit lid.
• Ensure the pit is guarded by 4-sided gate guards. Always ensure the reflectors on gate guard are facing out.
• Only inducted, trained, competent personnel to work at pits.
• All works to be guarded to Chapter 8 and NRSWA ACOP.
• No works to be left unattended and footway/carriageway pits to be fully guarded at all times.
• Work area to be kept free from trip hazards.
• All tools and equipment to be contained within the guarded working area.
• All vehicles to be issued with constant calibrated gas testers. If not, then please advise your site supervisor immediately.
• All footway/carriageway boxes to be tested and monitored for gas.
• No naked flames or smoking during, before and after all works.
• Where gas is detected / smelt / or suspected then works will stop with immediate effect and the area evacuated and made safe. Personnel to call Site Supervisor immediately.
• Personnel will not climb into pits, tunnels, cavities etc. Works over 1m deep are defined as confined spaces and the Fibre First MS confined spaces adhered to.
