Health & Safety Procedures Discussion

  • Importance of Signing In & Out on first arrival and departure from sites.

The Site Attendance Logs are not used as a tool for time keeping or checking up on operatives.

Their main purpose is to act as a roll call in the event of an emergency. In any such case, it is imperative that Site Management and any Emergency Services are aware of attendance on site at any given time.

Where it may seem most important to know which Operatives are onsite, it is just as important to know who has left, in the case of an emergency, if it is believed that Operatives are on site when in fact they are not due to failing to sign out, emergency responders may go into a hazardous building to 'rescue' personnel who are not there.

All Operatives receive Site Induction when they arrive to site for the first time, it is stressed here the importance of signing In and Out and the location of said visitors book.

If for any reason you are unable to sign IN OR OUT after first raising the issue with Site Representative, it is imperative this is raised to your Line Manager before leaving/entering site for escalation.

If a site operates a 'Permit to Work' policy, it is imperative that this is followed, it is as important as Signing In or Out. Site Management must be aware of activities happening for the safety of all Operatives.

If a site has a Permit to Work in operation and for whatever reason, you can not access or sign one, activities can not begin and the situation MUST be escalated firstly to the relevant people on site and if not rectified, direct to line managment.

Failure to do so is considered non compliance with Company Procedure and could result in disciplinary procedures being taken.
